1 | Was Peter denied before the Father? | Matt 10:33 | Makarios | 15767
Yes, we can deny Him, but this would mean that we were never truly saved to begin with. Our Lord gave an example of 'reinstating' Peter as a disciple and apostle, since Peter denied Christ three times (John 21:15-17). While denying Christ, Peter was not totally rejecting Christ or against accepting Him as Lord and Savior, since Peter previously acknowledged the true nature of Christ in Matthew 16:15-18 and in John 6:66-69. What Peter is doing is 'falling away', something which all the disciples were guilty of (Matthew 26:31-35). And when Jesus returns, He forgives them, even calls them 'brethren' (Matt. 28:10), and recommissions them (Matt. 28:18-20). Our Lord gives an example that we can come back to Him if we first fail, or sin, and need to be cleansed of that, which is something that He already paid for on the cross. But in no way does any disciple completely reject or deny Christ, which is what Matthew 10:33 is talking about. In fact, we see the disciples doing the exact opposite in the book of Acts! :-) We see how zealous they are for God! Blessings, Nolan |

2 | Was Peter denied before the Father? | Matt 10:33 | Sir Pent | 15786
I would agree that Peter's denial of Jesus was not one of belief, but instead one of aquaintance. Peter did not deny that Jesus was the Christ. Instead he denied that Peter was who Peter really was. Peter didn't lie about Jesus, he lied about himself by saying he didn't know Jesus. It was still a lie, and was still sin, and still required repentance and forgiveness. However, I think that this is different from the idea, which Jesus was trying to communicate when He said that those who deny Christ would be denied before the Father in Heaven. Whether or not a Christian could do that or not is another interesting question and is covered in the "Can a Christian disown Christ?" thread. |

Greetings Sir Pent! Yes, I agree! Many times here on the Forum I have seen threads go many directions and not stay 'on the path' of the original question.. :) You are absolutely right, if the topic diverges to a point that we find ourselves answering questions out of the 'scope' of the topic at hand, than it is best that a new thread be created. Bring on all the interesting questions! :) Blessings to you! Nolan |
