Ok, lets look in the book of Acts together.. Acts 4:1-31 describes Peter and John being arrested, tried and threatened by the Sanhedrin. Acts 5:17-42 describes how all of the apostles were jailed, tried and flogged, but later released. Acts 6:11-7:60 teaches us about the testimony and death of Stephen by the Sanhedrin. Acts 12:1-19 speaks of King Herod and how he imprisoned Peter and put James (one of the twelve) to death with the sword [beheaded]. Acts 14:5-7, Acts 16:22-40, Acts 21:27-23:11, where the Lord says that Paul "will witness at Rome also".. Paul is taken to governor Felix in Acts 24:1-27, then tried before governor Festus (Acts 25:1-22) and then before King Agrippa (Acts 25:23-26:32) where Paul appeals to the Emperor, Caesar himself. In Acts 28, Paul finally gets to Rome to appeal to Caesar, all the while spreading the Gospel with his testimony, before many kings, and governors and the Sanhedrin, and finally before a Roman emperor! --Nolan |
