Bible Question: When did Matthew 10:17-18 happen to the disciples? |
Bible Answer: Hello Steve! I can see that you are studying Matthew, my favorite of the Gospels! :-) I believe that this 'handing over to the courts and scourging in the synagogues' takes place initially in the book of Acts, the "spirit" of which continues until this very day, and labeled as persecution. To quote Ryrie.. "10:17 scourge: flog with a bastinado (stick or club), a painful punishment. 10:21-23 These verses are a prediction of persecution in those days and in the Tribulation before the second coming of Christ (24:9-14). Such unnatural acts against members of one’s own family have taken place under totalitarian regimes in the past and in modern times."
