Firstfruits are are the portion of a crop harvested at the beginning. It is to be taken out of the harvest before anything else. Those of us who are not farmers harvest an income. So the firstfruits of your income would be taken out ahead of any other disbursment of funds. | ||||||

Doc - could you please consider James 1:18, 1 Cor 15:20-26; 1 Thess 4:16 in relation to this verse? After reading all this, might this shed any insight on the 144,000 of Rev 14:4 being described as first fruit? I'd appreciate your input here. Blessings, mommapbs |

Hi, Momma... I'm afraid I've never dug deep into eschatology. I suppose it is because I've never been fully persuaded by any of the arguments. Besides which, there's just so much to study in everything else! :-) "Firstfruit" in terms of Christ is that He is the first to be ressurected from the dead and glorified. Firstfruit speaks of the initial and the best -- sometimes in a literal way, and sometimes in a metaphorical way. I believe that James is using it in the latter sense. Consequently I cannot speak to the identification of the redeemed mentioned in Revelation 14. Beyond what the chapter says intself about these saints, I am certain that they are from among those mentioned in Revelation 7:9. If I said much more than that, I'd be on the shakey ground of sheer speculation. In Him, Doc |
