1 | Why is bigamy ok but adultry isn't? | Ex 21:10 | Rolff | 221909
The seventh commandment in Exodus 20, tells us not to commit adultry. Clear as can be. But a chapter later in Exodus 22-23 we are given rules for a second wife. Two wives (bigamy) appear to not be sin in the Pentateuch but adultry is sin. What is the difference? they both have two different women in your bedroom. This is an honest question that is gnawing at me. |

2 | Why is bigamy ok but adultry isn't? | Ex 21:10 | Morant61 | 221910
Greetings Rolff! I believe you are talking about Exodus 21:10. The laws listed in Exodus 21-23 deal with issues of social justice. No where in these passages is bigamy commanded or approved. However, bigamy did occur, so God laid out regulations to protect the wives in these situations. Just like Scripture tells us that God hates divorce, but yet He regulates it to protect the innocent. In the same way, Ex. 22 regulates what to do in cases of the rape of a virgin. God is not condoning rape. He is protecting the victim. I hope this helps! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

3 | Why is bigamy ok but adultry isn't? | Ex 21:10 | sonofmom | 221916
Hi Rolff, I saw your post and it caused me to wonder, 'where does anyone say that bigamy is ok?' Actually, the Bible is written about history, and bigamy is reported, nowhere does the Bible condone the practice. I think it is there to show us our fallen nature, as it is a detestable prctice in my view. To take the practice to an extreme, Solomon had 700 wives and 300 concubines. That may look desirable to a man's flesh, but can anyone even imagine what it would be like to have 700 mothers-in-law? ((o:] (just kidding, honey) |

4 | Why is bigamy ok but adultry isn't? | Ex 21:10 | Rolff | 221930
It sure doesn't say it is wrong. David had 19 reported wives/concubines/women and he was a friend of God. I'm not sure I want one gunaika, but we hear to an extreme, adultry is sin. NO ONE preaches that bigamy is not forbidden in God's eyes. What is the difference? One man, two women in two chapters of Exodus.(Exodus 20:14 and 21:10) |
