1 | Problem sharing our faith? | Ex 20:13 | stjohn | 211862 | ||
Hi kamschoolgrad, Welcome. First of all, God did not say "you shall not kill." The command is, "you shall not murder" first seen in Exodus 20:13 (above) and again in Numbers it is given with a more clear understanding. Num 35:31 'Moreover, you shall not take ransom for the life of a murderer who is guilty of death, but he shall surely be put to death. And again it is repeated (Deut 5:17) in light of this more clear understanding given in the book of Numbers, - there is a big difference between murder and killing. Certainly we have a right to defend ourselves or our loved-ones or our country (such as fighting someone like Hitler for instance) even an innocent stranger perhaps being victimized by some scoundrel. Matthew 5:20-22 says that if you call someone a fool you are in danger of hell. How much more evil is it to be speaking evil against God, and so doing, promulgating false teaching and therefore causing many to be in danger of hell? Matt 5:20 "For I say to you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. v 21 "You have heard that the ancients were told, 'YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT MURDER' and 'Whoever commits murder shall be liable to the court.' v 22 "But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be guilty before the court; and whoever says to his brother, 'You good-for-nothing,' shall be guilty before the supreme court; and whoever says, 'You fool,' shall be guilty enough to go into the fiery hell. I am sure my husband's co-worker will agree with us there are differences between killing and murder, but that is not the problem. We can unanimously agree that committing murder is always wrong but killing although sometimes wrong, is sometimes necessary and justified. The problem my boyfriend and I have trying to explain this is overcoming the cruelty of King Makua issuing an order that anyone speaking evil against the king shall be put to death. In Deut 13:10, God commands that a person who tries to sway a family member away from the Lord shall be killed. How do we explain God's justice and mercy in this situation? How do we reach out to our friends when they ask the question, why is killing a family member who has a different opinion not murder? Is killing a family member for going against God necessary and justifiable? |

God had divine sovereign authority to do as He pleases! If He says to do it it is not murder. Frankly I wouldn't wast my time on their nonsensical question that is, comparing God's word with a story about some King whats-his-name that is completely made up. Talk about a Fairy Tail! Just use the Scripture and let the word of God tell it! If they won't listen to that then, Prov 26:4 Do not answer a fool according to his folly, Or you will also be like him. God bless John |
