When Moses and the Isrealites were in the wilderness the people complained they wanted meat ro eat. Why didn't they slaughter some of their stock and eat that? | ||||||

The number of Israelites in the desert is estimated to numbered well over a million. If they began to eat their herds they would have nothing to establish livestock when they got to the promise land. Plus I imagine the live stock did supply milk and other by products which it could not if it was eaten. Even a large herd would be quickly eaten by over a million people. |

"sacrifice" means "to make sacred" Life is sacred, even the lives of animals is sacred. The Torah laws regarding the rituals of sacrifice were not given yet. Adam and Eve were vegetarian, meat wasn't eaten til after the flood and the only dietary law was the prohibition against the consumption of blood which means you don't eat meat raw. An animal had to be slain as humanely as possible so it didn't suffer. | ||||||
