1 | Are 'backsliders' saved? | Hos 11:7 | kalos | 10674
Nolan: Could you please give us a biblical definition of "backslide," "backslider" or "backslidden"? Using your concordance, you will find that none of these words appears even once in the NT. --JVH0212 "In essentials unity, in nonessentials liberty, and in all things charity." |

2 | Are 'backsliders' saved? | Hos 11:7 | Makarios | 10720
Yes, JVH0212, I have not found the words "backslide", "backslider", or "backslidden" in the NT for quite some time now. However, the term still keeps coming up among Christians. Easton's Bible Dictionary states, "Backslide: To draw back or apostatize in matters of religion (Acts 21:21; 2 Thess. 2:3; 1 Tim. 4:1). This may be either partial (Prov. 14:14) or complete (Heb. 6:4-6; 10:38, 39). The apostasy may be both doctrinal and moral." The Holman Bible Dictionary states, "BACKSLIDING Term used by the prophets to describe Israel’s faithlessness to God (Isa. 57:17 RSV; Jer. 3:14, 22; 8:5; 31:22; 49:4; Hos. 11:7; 14:4). In these passages it is clear that Israel had broken faith with God by serving other gods and by living immoral lives. See Apostasy." So if 'backsliders' are indeed 'apostates' and the terms are synonymous with each other, then I come to the conclusion that 'backsliders' will not be saved. Nolan |
