1 | dictatorship superior to democracy? | Dan 2:37 | Pastor Glenn | 82334
Is this scripture implying that dictatorship is superior to democracy? Dan 2 37You, O king, are a king of kings. For the God of heaven has given you a kingdom, power, strength, and glory; 38and wherever the children of men dwell, or the beasts of the field and the birds of the heaven, He has given them into your hand, and has made you ruler over them all--you are this head of gold. 39But after you shall arise another kingdom inferior to yours; then another, a third kingdom of bronze, which shall rule over all the earth. 40And the fourth kingdom shall be as strong as iron, inasmuch as iron breaks in pieces and shatters everything; and like iron that crushes, that kingdom will break in pieces and crush all the others. 41Whereas you saw the feet and toes, partly of potter's clay and partly of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; yet the strength of the iron shall be in it, just as you saw the iron mixed with ceramic clay. 42And as the toes of the feet were partly of iron and partly of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong and partly fragile. 43As you saw iron mixed with ceramic clay, they will mingle with the seed of men; but they will not adhere to one another, just as iron does not mix with clay. |

2 | dictatorship superior to democracy? | Dan 2:37 | EdB | 82365
Pastor Glenn Yes a dictatorship is stronger than a democracy, while displayed in this passage in the Bible, that is trend is also seen in any study of political science or sociology. However that does not mean it is the most desirable. Each successive government in Neuchadnezzar's dream was represented by a low quality metal. Gold being the highest assigned to Nebuchadnezzar's dictatorship down to iron and clay assigned to Rome's democracy. In order of personal preference we would prefer the democracy. However most Democracies give into dictatorships when social morals drop so low that crime and anarchy reign. The framers of our constitution realized this and most commented that the democracy of the US hinged on the Christian ethics and morals, if they disappear the democracy will collapse. EdB |

3 | dictatorship superior to democracy? | Dan 2:37 | Hank | 82368
"...the democracy of the US hinged on the Christian ethics and morals. If they disappear the democracy will collapse." ..... Early on in the Operation Iraqi Freedom campaign, our military leaders in the theater of operation predicted that Baghdad would fall from within, not from without. That is what happened. The leadership ran like scared rabbits and the Iraqi military essentially threw in the towel. Both the Greek Empire and Roman Empire crumbled from within, a fall precipated by the moral and spiritual decay of its citizenry. Our nation was conceived and founded on solid ground, the solid ground of belief in and dedication to Christian beliefs and ethics. Today the one Book from which these teachings are derived is banned in the classrooms of our public schools. The lilting poetry of the Psalms and Christ's incomparable Sermon on the Mount have been replaced by the adventures of Harry Potter and the atheistic theory of Charles Darwin. We murder a million and more babies a year and call it pro choice; we endorse sexual perversion and call it an alternative lifestyle. Yet we continue to sing "God Bless America" and retain still the motto "In God we trust" on the face of our coins. We call bigoted and right-wing extremists those who are brave enough to defend their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. We severely chastize those who would dare voice their belief that Christianity is true and that pagan religions are false. So, will God keep His hedge of protection forever around a country and a people who make every attempt to shut Him out and shut Him up? Or is America speeding on a crash course to collapse and destruction? "Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it; unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman stays awake in vain." [Psalm 127:1] --Hank

Well, we Southern Baptists are known to get fired up now and then, even though we tend to nod off occasionally if the pastor's sermon runs over three hours :-) But now to wax more serious: It is a clear responsibility, grave and urgent, for genuine, Spirit-filled Christian men and women to pray and keep on praying for this country. It is in trouble. It has all but lost its moral and spiritual compass and but for the dwindling minority of born-again Christians, I cannot help but believe that the wrath of God would descend upon it. How I urge all Christians who read this page to engage in fervent prayer for our nation and for a revival, a restoration to the sacred, biblical principles upon which it was founded. A nation returned to God, a nation that can etch upon its coins "In God we trust" without being hypocritical. A nation that can sing "God Bless America" and really mean it. --Hank
