1 | Why would NIV say 500 cubits? | Ezek 42:16 | tortoise | 129263
Apparent discrepancy between NIV and other translation, NIV say five hundred cubits. I have a note in one NIV Bible saying something about the Septuagint. Does anyone know why the NIV would make such a divergent translation?
2 | Why would NIV say 500 cubits? | Ezek 42:16 | justme | 129286
tortoise: I so enjoyed your testimony in your personal profile. Many never take the time to fill it out, and it is refreshing to read yours, thank you. By what you say and having a grand child you must be in your fifties or there abouts. I think many of can relate with you and how we too desired a personal living relationship with the Lord Jesus. Nothing takes the place of KNOWING that our Lord is hearing us and answering us. This takes time to develope, and for me took lots of love on Jesus' part. In the NASB updated is uses the word "reed" and I believe a reed and cubit are almost the same in measurement. The NIV in the early editions had to correct their measurement chart as it had errors, and was corrected sometime after 1980. In the 1983 updated edition there was Many word changes and they were for the better. I personally have shifted to mainly the NASB Updated and use the NIV as a way the clarify a verse if I find it rather wordy. I have made the change because my thought pattern follows the wording better in the NASB. I find the words more deeply express the heart felt emotion of the meanings in words. Grace and blessings. 3 | Why would NIV say 500 cubits? | Ezek 42:16 | tortoise | 129372
Thank you for taking the time to respond to me personally as well as to my question. No one has ever commented on it before, I suppose not knowing what to make of it. As usual I was too short in my description. When the man with the reed is introduced in 40:5 the reed is stated to be 6 cubits long. I was awe struck with the temples immensity until others with the NIV made known what their version said. I go between the NKJV, NASB, and NIV and generally side with the majority. It seems as though the NIV is out on a limb this time. |
