1 | irresponsible shepherds and fat sheep | Ezek 34:1 | KatieK | 81313
My question relates to Ezekiel 34: 1-24 and beyond. The passage talks about irresponsible shepherds not caring for the flock. Do you think the OT is a reflection of our times? There is a lot of scripture where God uses His prophets to tell the people what they are doing wrong and setting His people on the right track. These days I either hear "You wicked sinner repent and ask for forgiveness", or " We are so special we have won the victory....". I have seen many people hurt by both sieds. I am becoming involved in a prayer ministry within my church and wondering the appropriateness of praying and confessing such things as the sheperds and fat sheep referred to in the Ezekiel passage. I feel presumptous to think such leaders and Christaian could exist in my church - the folk are so lovely and the church appears so healthy. I would not consider praying such a prayer for others unless I place myself at the top of the list for exposure.... I'd value comments that relate the Ezekiel passage to today's Christain life. |

2 | irresponsible shepherds and fat sheep | Ezek 34:1 | EdB | 81331
KatieK If is not a problem in your church why pray about it? If your praying about it in another church then you have to be cautious that your praying and not gossiping. Some attend prayer meetings to get caught up on the latest gossip. Dear God forgive Sue who is running around on her husband, Tom who was just caught with Betty and for Jack who got fired for stealing from the company. In public prayer it is better to stick with things that edify, encourage, and exhort rather than things that are wrong or not publicly known. If your praying for other churches in general I think you can word your prayers that people understand your not talking about them or their church. EdB |

3 | deceive even the elect | Ezek 34:1 | KatieK | 81336
Thanks EdB, I was thinkinhg more about praying scripture and for things that are hidden, Not about particular people or church. Matthew 24:24 For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect–if that were possible. I am learning that what I see is not always the truth. What appears good on the outside can be deceiving about what is on the inside. From time to time we pray the passage in Ezekiel about the dry bones...... obviously we are praying for the dried up spirits of the army who are battered and worn by the world. In a sense there is a sense of stirring up trouble, but is there a safer way to stir up trouble than by the Word of God and asking Him to expose what is hidden? KK |

4 | deceive even the elect | Ezek 34:1 | EdB | 81340
KatieK If God is leading you pray this way then by all means pray that way. I would advise you pray about it silently less you be the one accused of stirring up trouble. EdB |
