1 | Face of the cherub or the bull? | Ezek 10:14 | pepper_jw | 67913
Why the "face of the cherub" and not the "face of the bull"? Ezekiel described the faces of the cherub in two places, Ezek 1:10 and 10:14. I have always wondered why he described the face of the bull as the face of the cherub in Ezek 10:14, possible textual error? |

2 | Face of the cherub or the bull? | Ezek 10:14 | Makarios | 67914
Greetings Pepper, Actually, there are no textual variants here, and all of the translations that I have consulted (be they from the Majority Text tradition or the Critical Text) translate these verses in the same way. Ezekiel 1:10 is "bull" (NASB) or "ox" (KJV, ASV, NKJV, RSV, ESV, NIV, Amplified, ACV, YLT). Ezekiel 10:14 is always "cherub." Here is a bit of insightful commentary.. "10:8-17 A description of the throne-chariot similar to that given in chap. 1. In 1:10 the four faces of the living creatures are described as that of a man (in front as they moved toward Ezekiel), of a lion (on the right), of a bull (on the left), and of an eagle (in back). Here (10:14) they are south of Ezekiel moving east, placing the bull face toward Ezekiel, which he calls the cherub face, perhaps because he saw it first." (1) The Unabridged Matthew Henry Commentary also has some insightful comments on this verse, but it is a bit lengthy to put in this post..
