1 | 'Prophecy from the LORD' | Jer 23:34 | DocTrinsograce | 174139
Hi, Brother Hank... As I read Brother Kalos post and your followup, I was thinking: this heresy is a very old one. It might be said to have its roots in Genesis 3. But certainly it is what prompted the early church to establish the canon of Scripture. Not only were there people who wanted to put words into God's mouth, there were those that wanted other words removed. Of course, no matter how often the church deals with heresy, it always rears its ugly head in the next generation or two. There's nothing new under the sun. Charles Spurgeon wrote, "A sacred regard to the authority of God [the Scriptures] ought to lead us to reject an error, however old, sanctioned by whatever authority, or however generally practiced." A common malady of our day, though, is an abysmal lack of knowledge regarding history. Consequently, each generation regards the errors of the past as something new and novel. Thank you for your post. And thanks also to Brother Kalos for his posts! In Him, Doc |

2 | 'Prophecy from the LORD' | Jer 23:34 | Hank | 174143
Doc, it's fairly safe to conclude that each generation insists on trying its own hand at re-inventing the wheel. Perhaps a perfect circle (perfect is superfluous) just isn't perfect enough (enough is, of course, superfluous in this construction). And if one is compiling a list of superfluities, he may as well add Scripture to the heap of unnecessaries, for all that it is prized by the modern apostate church. Alas! Shame! What fools we mortals be! --Hank
