1 | What does God means in Jeremiah 33 ? | Is 9:6 | flordeliz | 129405
What does the Lord means when he said " 'In those days and at that time I will make a righteous Branch sprout from David's line; he will do what is just and right in the land. In those days Judah will be saved and Jerusalem will live in safety. This is the name by which it will be called: The LORD Our Righteousness.' is he reffering to Jesus because nobody during that time is righteous in the eye of God, and that was long after the kingship of David? |

2 | What does God means in Jeremiah 33 ? | Is 9:6 | JCrichton | 129406
Hi, Flordeliz! Yes, the reference is to Jesus... compare Isaiah 9:6-7: For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, [1] Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this. Also check Isaiah 7:14, Micha 5:2, and Isaiah 40:9-11. God Bless! Angel |

I'll take a shot at your question. I've posted about this subject in a vague sort of way in the past. We need to understand the world back then was far more addicted to this physical world than we are in this current age. They wanted their Messiah to come back and deliver them from the Romans. We see that most clearly in Acts 1:4 And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, "which," He said, "you have heard from Me; 5for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now." 6Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, "Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?" 7And He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority. 8But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." Here we see the resurrected Christ with His disciples just moments before His ascension to His Father. He has been to cross, died for all mankind, and He's been raised from the dead. The most fantastic miracle ever performed in the whole history of this planet. And His disciples ask if He is now ready to take Israel back to its proper prominence in the world when He's already predicted its doom in just a few years. They, His disciples apparently were ready at that very moment to take up the sword against the Roman army and deliver Israel from bondage. No, if the disciples couldn't possibly understand God's plan for us as His children, the rest of the Israelite nation couldn't be expected to as they hadn't spent 3 and one half years with the Lord as these gentlemen had. It took the special empowerment and God given knowledge of the Holy Spirit a few days later for the Apostles to know and then spread the Word to the rest of the world. We must remember "God's Ways are simply NOT man's ways." We are and our thoughts to Him are much like the ants are to us, only farther and far more in contrast. Now, don't get me wrong. We in this dispensation don't do any better. Just look at the history of this planet since the advent of Christianity. We continue in wars, constant world-wide conflict and we can't even agree on what God says in His very own Book. The Book written by men who gave their very lives believing to their dying breath every Word therein. No, we don't have a single thing to brag about. We're all prone to think of ourselves when we're in a crisis. Absolutely none of us could hold a candle to what Christ did or even the Apostles did; mainly because they had the Spirit of God to assist them. We humans have only one thing to look forward to if any of us are looking for the "good life" and that's after Judgment Day. Praise the Lord till that day comes and blessings to you. Country Girl |

Hi, Country Girl. I have a question about your statement: "Absolutely none of us could hold a candle to what Christ did or even the Apostles did; mainly because they had the Spirit of God to assist them." We cannot "hold a candle to what Christ did" because He is the Son of God and sinless perfection. However, though I would not dare to compare myself to an Apostle, do we not have that same Holy Spirit to assist us? Thank you for your explanation to flordeliz. As is usually the case, they (and we) had their eyes on earthly things rather than heavenly. The Jews were looking for relief from their bondage to the Romans (physical) rather than relief from their bondage to sin (spiritual). Just as when Jesus said in John 2:19, "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up," the Jews thought He meant the actual building and He was speaking of the temple of His body (John 2:21). Though the Holy Spirit guides us into all truth, many times we still don't see the "heavenly perspective" because our eyes are on the earthly. For example, in Romans 8:28 we read that "all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose." From our earthly perspective we expect God to take difficult circumstances and make something good out of them in such a tangible way that we can point to the "good" and say, "See what God has done for us?" This helps to "explain" away the "bad" things that come our way. However, if we view it from a "heavenly perspective" (God's view) we can rest in knowing that in all circumstances God is conforming us to the image of His Son. We may not be able to see it and yet, we can KNOW it because He has told us so. "Lord, help me to get my eyes off of the temporary, physical realm that focuses on me and help me to put them on You and things eternal." In Him, Karen |

The main difference between us and the Apostles in the first century was the baptismal measure of the Holy Spirit. Only the Apostles were able to perform miracles AND lay their hands on others, bestowing those same miraculous powers. So we're not able to perform miracles like those performed in the first century. This phase out of the miraculous age was predicted in 1 Cor 13. Apparently, God wanted us to come to Him more out of faith than belief in miracles manifested by men. Blessings to you. Country Girl |
