starfire: I'm pleased that you found my capsule commentary on the passage in Isaiah helpful and thank you for your thoughtfulness in responding. ...... I note in your user profile that you are perhaps searching for another study Bible and offer herewith a suggestion or two. I've found John MacArthur's to be very useful, as have many other registrants of this Forum. He uses the NKJV text. Charles Ryrie's, which is available in the NASB, is also good. He has an enviable talent for being able to say things clearly without being overly verbose. A third I use and like is called "The King James Study Bible" publish by Nelson. It is, as the title clearly indicates, based on the KJV. All these study Bibles are conservative evangelical, with the latter having a distinctly Baptist orientation, which is fine with me since I'm Southern Baptist (SBC). I have a half dozen other study Bibles and a couple of commentaries in my personal library, but the three I mentioned are the ones I go to more frequently than the others. You mentioned that you have the Life Application Bible. That's a favorite with some here on the Forum. I'm familiar with it but don't own a copy and therefore don't use it, but that doesn't mean I have any disdain for it at all. My bookshelves are bulging as it is and one is forced eventually to "be content with such things as ye have" as the writer of Hebrews says, although it is more than likely he wasn't writing about study Bibles. :-) --Hank | ||||||

Hank, Thank you for taking time to share your experiences with me regarding studying the bible. I will look into some of the ones you mention. I recently bought a large print (for night time reading) Amplified bible and was very disappointed. There is no concordance and very few footnotes. I've seen the regular print edition(which is only 5 pt) and it has MUCH, MUCH more. I wouldn't mind anothe 1/2 inch or even inch of thickness if they'd have included everything. Just thought I'd try to share a bit of my own experiences in case anyone is considering one. |
