I found my same questions (listed below) at a Jewish site regarding this passage, which included the information on the Hebrew word study for "seed" (or offspring) used in this passage. Any light would be appreciated. : 53:10 "He shall see his seed." The Hebrew word for "seed", used in this verse, always refers to physical descendants in our Jewish Scriptures. See, e.g., Gen. 12:7; Gen. 15:13; Gen. 46:6; Ex. 28:43. A different word, generally translated as "sons", is used to refer to spiritual descendants (see Deut. 14:1, e.g.). 53:10 "He will prolong his days." Not only did Jesus die young, but how could the days be prolonged of someone who is alleged to be God? |

Hi, Star! Are you quoting some one else ("Not only did Jesus die young, but how could the days be prolonged of someone who is alleged to be God?") or are these your own words? If they are, does that mean that you do not believe that Jesus Christ is God? And if you do not believe that He is God, are you basing this on your findings on this thread? If this is the case I want to share with you a Scriptural passage that demonstrates that Jesus' contemporaries did understand that He revealed that He is God: For this reason the Jews tried all the harder to kill him; not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God. (John 5:18) ...and through the prophects Yahweh made it known that His Son, the Emmanuel, would come to rescue His people (Israel), Isaiah 7:14; 9:16; 52:13 thru 53:12; 42:1-8; Joel 2:23-32; Malachi 3:1-9... Could go on forever... awaiting your reply! God Bless! Angel |

Hello Angel! No, the questions were copied from a Jewish site, but still, other than part about the deity of Jesus, they expressed my own lack of understanding as well ... I have a really hard time understanding why the Jewish people have not accepted Jesus in all this time and had begun looking through their sites to get some concept of why - would help if I had a witnessing opportunity to understand where they are coming from...as I looked into the passages they mentioned, in many I shared the same perplexity as to the meaning of the passage and how it relates appropriately to Jesus (not out of doubt that He's LORD, but out of a desire to better understand Him in the scriptures) I really LOVE the study of prophecy as I eagerly await the rapture and supposedly the conversion of the Jewish people is a huge factor in the fullness of time coming into being. Also, just am intrigued by all the richness and hidden meaning in the OT as I learn more about the Jewish feasts and customs and how it related to Our Lord, Who of course practiced them and was represented in them. I've often said, I wish I knew of a "Messianic CHRISTIAN" church...a place for Christians to learn their JEWISH roots without converting to judaism of course. Does such a church exist?? Thanks for your enthusiastic reply, your time, and mostly for wanting to help (esp. if I had been questioning the authenticity of Jesus as Lord). Actually sometimes I find the passages that they (the jews) disagree with to be equally unclear, and want to better understand them. Examining all the other places in the OT where there were obvious references to Jesus and most of all, look into my heart where He resides, I thankfully KNOW WHO He is :-) |

Hi, Starfire! Phew!... that's quite a load off my back! I understand your concerns... as a young child I hated the Jews (had never met one before) because they killed Jesus... as I began to understand more about the Holy Scriptures that thought/feeling faded... I can't even remember if I was four or three I just have a vague memory of being in the Church's grounds and speaking with other kids on Sunday School's material... Just as strong as that temporary feeling was, is my conviction that we (Christians) must pray for the conversion of man, and specially of the Jewish people... God's Divine Plan alloted for our coming into Grace by allowing the Jews to rebel... but as Scripture say, they are the natural Olive and we the ingrafted... Read Romans 9:1 through 11:32--this is a wonderful starting point to understanding why the Jews rejected Christ, why the Gentiles were brought into the fold, and how it will all end (specifically 11:32)! I liken the blindness of the Jews to that of the disciples when Jesus appeared to them after His resurrection: some were granted the sight to see Him and recognize Him while others were not granted the sight right away, but after a lengthy interchange... and even doubtful Thomas was not cast away but shown mercy and patience! I am sure that the problem of the Jewish people have transgressed history partly because of Divine Will and partly due to human nature: can you imagine you being the owner of a piece of land, a land that your family had for hundreds of years, and thabn one day someone comes along and takes the land from you? Your ego would almost explode! Now bring that up a notch (well, a million zillion notches) and we have the Jewish people vs. these Christians who have taken their God away and made Him in the image of that Christ character... totally unacceptable! It is our obligation to help them come back to the fold... the prayer of the saints can accomplish much (James 5:17-18; Ephesians 6:18) and it pleases God! You demonstrate great excitement for the Holy Scripture and for our Lord's roots (prophecies), please continue your quest and your life in Christ Jesus... be patient, though, if the people of Israel have not discover the fulness of Truth in over two thousand years, we (this generation of Christians) cannot expect to get it all right away either! I know of an organization of Messianic Jews, a magazine on Christianity with the Jewish perspective, and a couple of websites that can help you--I must look for the respective contacts and addresses... I will tag this segment of the thread as soon as I get them... If you ever want to discuss any of the material/Biblical passages you can drop an email at jcrichtonfs1@yahoo.com--I'll do my best to assist you... though I must warn you that I am biased towards Jesus... so my perspective migh not have the Jewish flavors/ambiance that you are getting from their site... God Bless! Angel |
