2 | Why will He wave His hand over the river | Is 11:15 | Searcher56 | 76977
I looked at several translations ... The LORD will dry up the gulf of the Egyptian sea; with a scorching wind he will sweep his hand over the Euphrates River (the River) He will break it up into seven streams so that men can cross over in sandals. (NIV) And the LORD shall utterly destroy the tongue of the Egyptian sea; and with his mighty wind shall he shake his hand over the river, and shall smite it in the seven streams, and make men go over dryshod. (KJV) The LORD will utterly destroy the tongue of the Sea of Egypt; With His mighty wind He will shake His fist over the River, And strike it in the seven streams, And make men cross over dryshod. (NKJV) And Jehovah hath devoted to destruction The tongue of the sea of Egypt, And hath waved His hand over the river, In the terror of his wind, And hath smitten it at the seven streams, And hath caused [men] to tread [it] with shoes. (YLT) Wave in the NAS, shake in KJV, is Nuwph (Strong's 5130) to move to and fro, wave, besprinkle I like wave, based on Exodus 29:24-27, and other passages |

3 | Why will He wave His hand over the river | Is 11:15 | Ray | 76979
Hi Searcher, Thank you for your work here. I find interest in Strong's 5130 concerning the wave and the "besprinkle". I have not studied wave offerings. I do think that although a mighty or scorching wind is spoken of here in the verse, I get the sense that it is a blessing even though a striking is mentioned. l)I am thinking about whether the fist or the wind does the striking. 2) I am thinking about the number of pronouns of Deity involved; does He strike or are all three pronouns in totality striking it. 3) I am wondering about how all this relates to the root or Root of Jesse in verse 10. 4) I am wondering why He will wave His hand. From the heart, Ray |
