1 | Womens Hair in the OT | Song 4:1 | morleyde | 189778
Does anyone know of anything in the Bible that refers to womens hair in the OT. I am puzzled that the OT has so many restrictions and commandments for so many things but womens hair is never mentioned. Wasn't there ever any women in the OT who cut her hair off, or a man who had long hair like a women? Does anyone know of a respected source that has looked into this? There are commandments in the OT about the type of cloth you can wear, and other seemingly very minor things, but nothing about hair.

morleyde - Why not use the "Get Bible Text" search engine on the right margin of this page, type in the word hair, and see whether you find what you're looking for? I did and came up with a few verses having to do specifically with women's hair. ..... You might also want to consult a Bible dictionary. I found entries on hair in both Holman's and Harper's. ..... A lovely paean to his bride's exquisite beauty, which included her hair, is found in these words of Solomon: "How beautiful you are, my darling, how beautiful you are! Your eyes are like doves behind your veil; your hair is like a flock of goats that have descended from Mount Gilead." (Song of Solomon 4:1). The imagery here is of hair that is long and flowing, like a flock of goats that blend together in symmetry as they descend from a mountainside. --Hank

Thanks Hank. I should have explained better that I didn't mean I couldn't find any reference in the OT to hair. I meant I couldn't find any reference in the OT to the RULES about hair. For example: could a women cut her hair in the OT? I know that it was forbidden for men to act or dress like women but there are many instances of men growing long hair. Corinthians mentions something about this but why is there nothing in the OT about it?
