1 | Christ and the Church (Song of Solomon) | Song 2:15 | Searcher56 | 59035
Scripture ... Pro 5:15-20, 6:24-29, 7:6-23; SoS 2:10-17 ... Kristi, greetings. "She gave the excuse of the foxes in her vineyard and turned him away" is not correct. It is the need to get rid of the foxes, so they do not ruin the vineyards, which may be the lover's phyiscal beuaty (1:6). Song of Solomon has been seen as an allegory between Christ and the church, as well as Christ and a soul and God and Israel. - There is no Scriptural support for any of these. - Also, what is said in this book includes phyiscal intimacy, which is not how I picture Christ and the church. Read Proverbs 5:15-20, 6:24-29 and 7:6-23. Do you see that this is better seen as a wedding song? Compare Song of Solomon 8:6-7 with Proverbs 1-9 and Job 28. Do you see that love is a gift of God and it is wisdom's description of an armorous relationship? Source: NIV Study Bible Now go to the speaker and challenge them on what they said. Continue searching Scrpture to see if what anyone says is so (Acts 17:11). Hope this helps, Searcher |

2 | Christ and the Church (Song of Solomon) | Song 2:15 | Makarios | 59039
Greetings Searcher, I seriously doubt that this is an issue that must be taken or dealt with in confrontation. I simply see this as a misunderstanding or conflict in reasoning regarding these verses. But, yes, the NIV Study Bible is an excellent resource, although others like Ryrie, MacArthur, Nelson and Scofield, used in conjunction with the NIV Study Bible, seem to give one a greater breadth of information regarding some passages.. :-) Blessings to you, Makarios |

3 | Christ and the Church (Song of Solomon) | Song 2:15 | Searcher56 | 59041
Makarios, I think teachers need to be challenged, not so much confronted if one think they missed something. I base this on Acts 17:11 and James 3:1 ... and on the latter, I want to know if someone thinks I missed something or am wrong. Searcher

Greetings Searcher! Yes, very much so (teachers need to be challenged)! However, there is a large difference between "challenging" or testing what one has to say, and "confronting" someone, face to face, about what they have said. Most of what I see on this Forum that I do not agree with, I let "slide", unless it is grossly in error and in direct conflict with what Scripture teaches. I know the Scriptures in which you base what you have stated, my friend! But I do not believe that everything, each and every single little thing (something as small as the correct interpretation of the Song of Solomon), should be something that we should confront or argue or use precious time in debating over.. And if you are "wrong", as in 'grossly wrong' or in conflict with the Scriptures, then I would expect that you would hope to find some "correction" on this Forum, as I would also. However, I suspect that you would not like me very much at all if I consistently and constantly pointed out your alleged "shortcomings" or differences in opinion in every single post that you made! :-) Such behavior is not an act in Christian love, in my opinion, and we should desire peace above all else. Confrontation is a "last resort" option, in my opinion, after we have all of the facts straight, and must not be hastily resorted to. But that is all that I have to say on that matter, my friend! Blessings to you, Makarios |
