1 | Six sins Lord hates; Seven detestable | Prov 6:16 | DocTrinsograce | 125214
In my exceedingly humble opinion, what you are seeing in Proverbs 6:16 with the "six" and then "seven" is a Hebraic literary idiom. (The seven things are itemized in verses 17 through 20.) Regarding "hate" versus "detest" I believe this is another literary device. The Old Testament is full of phrases that are repeated in this fashion, but mean the same thing, probably done for emphasis. A modern example might be if I said to you, "I am looking for a job. Yes, I'm really pounding the pavement."
2 | Six sins Lord hates; Seven detestable | Prov 6:16 | suzybeezy | 125263
I realize the use of numbers has a significant importance in it's usage throughout the bible. It's importance in this instance stumps me. I can see your point that it is so we take particular notice to the verse, but I can get past the point that there must be another reason why. I just got stuck here and haven't figured it out. Pray that the Lord will release His wisdom to me regarding this or someone will shed the light.
3 | Six sins Lord hates; Seven detestable | Prov 6:16 | DocTrinsograce | 125265
That is a request, dear sister, that you can bank on! Per James 1:5 God is always ready to give us wisdom. That verse further says that God does so "without reproach." To me, that's the penultimate "There are no dumb questions." What a gracious God we have! Thank you for your question and for your subsequent response. Please pray with me that God will grant us both greater wisdom... but more than that, that we will grow in our knowledge of Him!
