AUTOSOTERISM is the doctrine that each human being has the power to merit salvation by stint of effort, works, practice, or penance. A few advocates include: Pelagius, John Cassian, Faustus of Riez, Desiderius Erasmus, Hans Kung, Jeffrey L. Morrow. SYNERGISM is the doctrine that there are two efficient agents in regeneration, namely the human will and the Holy Spirit, which, in the strict sense of the term, cooperate. This theory accordingly holds that the soul has not lost in the fall all inclination toward holiness, nor all power to seek for it under the influence of ordinary motives.* A few advocates include: Jacob Harmensen, Hugo Grotius, John Wesley, Charles Finney, Clark Pinnock, North Whitehead, Kenneth Copeland, Oral Roberts, Robert Schuller. MONERGISM is the doctrine that the Holy Spirit is the only efficient agent in regeneration -- that the human will possesses no inclination to holiness until regenerated, and therefore cannot cooperate in regeneration.* A few advocates include: Augustine, John Chrysostom, Martin Luther, John Calvin, Thomas Manton, Charles Spurgeon, Martyn-Lloyd Jones, R. C. Sproul, John MacArthur. *These definitions are from the Century Dictionary. |

A new creation? Exposition of the Gospel of John Christ and Nicodemus John 3:1-8 "The one who is born again now loves the things he once bated [sic], and he hates now the things he once loved; and, in consequence, his whole line of conduct is radically affected. But, nevertheless, it remains true that his old heart (which is "deceitful above all things and desperately wicked") remains in him, unchanged, to the end." A.W. Pink eklektos |

Hi eklektos, Are you thinking of this quote from Pink in relation to Ezekiel? Eze 11:19 And I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you; and I will take the stony heart out of their flesh, and will give them an heart of flesh: Love in Christ, Mark |

Mark, Yes, that also. Actually, the quote is to express that, Pink, who is quoted here often, has some problems in his theology. Also, Eze 36:26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. 2Co 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. eklektos |
