1 | Scriptures on the spirit of Apathy? | Prov 1:32 | prayon | 104558
I am looking for a passage of scripture that talks about the spirit of apathy when it comes to the way we live our lives. I need a way biblically to back up that we have become desensitized today that we don't even realize that Satan is behind things. Thanks, prayon
2 | Scriptures on the spirit of Apathy? | Prov 1:32 | Makarios | 104579
Greetings Prayon, Here is how "apathy" is described in Webster's Dictionary: 1. lack of emotion, 2. lack of interest; listless condition; unconcern; indifference Examples of 'apathy' in the Bible may include: Isaiah 32:9; Lamentations 1:12; Ezekiel 11:19; 12:1-2; Amos 6:1; Zeph. 1:6; 2:15; 7:11-12; Matt. 22:1-14; Luke 18:1-5 Examples of 'indifference' in the Bible may include: Gen. 19:14; Psalm 106:7,13; Jer. 12:11; Ezek. 12:25-28; Jonah 1:5-6; Malachi 1:6-14; Mark 14:32-41 Examples of 'unconcerned' could include: Jer. 25:3; Luke 13:34; 15:1-7 Other closely related terms are 'idleness', 'sloth' and 'lukewarmness.' Idleness was a factor in David's sin with Bathsheba in 2 Sam. 11, since he was not out to war with his army. Other instances of 'idleness' in Scripture include: Prov. 6:6-11; 10:4-5,26; 12:9,24,27; 13:4; 14:23; 15:19; 18:9; 19:15,24; 20:4,13; 21:25-26; 23:21; 24:30-34; 26:13-16; Ecc. 10:18; Isaiah 56:10; Ezek. 16:49; 2 Thess 3:10; 1 Tim. 5:13 'Lukewarmness' can be found in the following verses: Jer. 9:3; Ezek. 13:5; 16:30; Hos. 6:4; 10:2; Haggai 1:2,4-11; 2:15,16; Matt. 26:41; Revelation 2:4; 3:2,15-16 A verse that speaks about not being 'slothful' is Romans 12:11. Here are some unclassified Scripture references that may help you: Hebrews 12:15; 2 Tim. 2:12-13; 4:10; Hosea 14:4; 1 John 2:19; Psalm 44:18,19; John 6:66; 2 Chr. 25:14,27; 1 Tim. 1:19,20; Matt. 24:12; 2 Pet. 3:17 As far as Satan is concerned, he is always waging war against believers (Eph. 6:11,12), seeking to plant doubt in our minds (Genesis 3:1-5), seeking to foster spiritual pride in our hearts (1 Tim. 3:6), and seeking to lead us away from "the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ" (2 Cor. 11:3). This topic is closely related to the topic of "apostasy", although 'apathy' is not the same as 'apostasy', even though it may lead to apostasy. I hope that this helps! Blessings to you, Makarios |
