1 | helping my family financially? | Prov 13:18 | crabchips | 200306
My aunt is having serious financial issues due to neglect and irresponsibility about her finances. Basically she has multiple mortgages and high debt, and will most likely have to sell her house. She and her husband do not want to do this, for they have gone through it before a few years ago. My father is debating on whether or not to help them by lending money, he believes that they will never learn anything if he helps and they will just get in a hole again. I was wondering what the bible says about helping your family financially. Thank you for any help you can offer.
2 | helping my family financially? | Prov 13:18 | BMyers | 200314
Dealing with family and financial issues can be very difficult. You definitely need to get some counseling locally from a Godly pastor or member of your church. Does the Bible give us guidance? Yes, we are to help those in need, but we are also cautioned about contributing to the foolishness and failing to be good stewards of what God has blessed us with. My wife and I have struggled with financial issues and dealing with her family for years. It is a challenge and requires a lot of prayer. You don't want to close any doors that God is opening for you to minister through, yet you don't want to foolishly throw away His money. It is hard to tell a family member no, that you can't or won't help them financially. We have spoken with our pastor and a couple of Godly people in our church. We even made arrangements to get our family members financial counseling and help them get into a program that would teach them, train them, and get them out of debt. Yet after spending all the time and effort, in our situation, the family members just wanted the money. We had done everything we could short of paying the debt for them. My wife and I talked a lot about this because it hurt her deeply. This situation can be compared to what Christ has done for us. Christ made all the preparations and has everything in place, yet you have to be willing to help yourself, Christ isn't going to force you, He stands at the door waiting for you. Better stop here before I type an essay on financial matters. Brad REV 3:20 ‘Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me. |
