Hi, Noreen... Welcome to the forum! The verse you are asking about is Genesis 9:25. Note that Ham was not cursed, but the grandson Canaan. Sin has deep and lasting consequences. This sin had consequences that extended all the way through the Canaanites, Egyptians, and even reverberates to this very day. Today we do not feel the weight of guilt because of our culture and the false teachers who declare universal innocence. Imagine what it was like, though, for Noah and Ham -- for there is a sharing of fault in this event. Imagine how this was received by the Israelites as Moses related the story. See and compare Exodus 20:5; Deuteronomy 7:9-10; Psalm 21:8-9; Isaiah 59:18. In Him, Doc |

Ok. So why did he curse Canaan? I don't see what either of them did wrong? After all Noah was the one to get drunk, and laid naked, All Ham did was told his brothers and they covered him up? I still don't understand. Please elaborate. | ||||||

Hi, Noreen... Love covers a multitude of sins (1 Peter 4:8b), as evidenced by the actions of Shem and Japheth (Genesis 9:23). Mocking one's father, as Ham did, is an overt violation of the fourth commandment, to honor our father and mother (cf Proverbs 30:17). In Him, Doc |
