1 | Noah,the eighth? | Gen 5:32 | michael03 | 195128
Shalom, brothers and sisters. I have a question about 2 Peter 2:5. This verse says that Noah was the eighth person. Now, I am missing something, because I count atleast nine men before him in Gen.4. Not to sound goofy, but can someone offer me a little insight. Peace be with you all, michael
2 | Noah,the eighth? | Gen 5:32 | stjohn | 195129
Hi Michael, Noah entered the ark with Ms. Noah, three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth, and their wives, that would be eight. God bless John |

3 | Noah,the eighth? | Gen 5:32 | michael03 | 195130
Shalom, John.Thank you for your time. It still doesn't seem right. From what little I do know, the man being the head of the family would be counted first. Which would make Noah number one. Unless, you are saying that he was the last one to enter the ark? I know it sounds off, but I try to learn every bit that I can.I was mis understanding the verse, then. Peace be with you, michael
4 | Noah,the eighth? | Gen 5:32 | stjohn | 195131
Hi Michael, Well, I don't know that Peter was really counting them formally, In which case Noah perhaps, would be counted first, I suppose, but, he was simply relaying the story of their salvation from destruction by the flood. He did however only mention Noah by name and the others were not mentioned by name, giving Noah formal precedence. Although, I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with what Peter is telling us here but, Does that help? God bless John |

John, yeah, it does help. It's been one of those long nights. I see where the verse is talking about the people going into the ark. God bless, michael
6 | Noah,the eighth? | Gen 5:32 | stjohn | 195138
Michael, Just a reminder, It's important to focus on the message that is being taught here in 2Perer, and not get sidetracked. Peter is talking about God judging, and condemning the wicked, and the salvation of the righteous through the work of the Holy Spirit. And God's all sufficient ability to do it. this has little or nothing to do with the formal customs of the day. Michael, I'm happy you are studding so diligently. :-) God bless John |

7 | Noah,the eighth? | Gen 5:32 | michael03 | 195142
John, I appreciate your concern. I have been in 1 and 2 Peter for the last couple of nights, but that verse stuck out. But, the first 8 verses are summed up by v.9, which is the salvation. I just want to look further into the word, that's all. Most verses can be taken as they are read, some just require digging into, just like knowledge. God is... and I sure am glad. Praise the Lord, michael

Just a suggestion: Try reading the shorter epistles (the ones with a half dozen chapters or so) twice a day, every day, for a month before beginning a study. It takes some discipline, but it bears incredible fruit, relative to the understanding. In this way one can follow the simple taxonomy of Scripture: truth becomes that which effects our heads, our hearts, our hands, and our habits.
