1 | Are Enoch and Elijah The Two Witnesses? | Gen 5:24 | Searcher56 | 11258 | ||
Nolan, excellent answer. Is it possible Enoch and Elijah are the Two Witnesses (Rev 11:3ff)? I ask because we it is appointed for us to die once, then the judgement (Heb 9:27). Steve PS Do we need a new thread? |

Two witnesses? I believe that this question has already been asked and discussed among the members of the Forum, but here's some information to add to those.. "11:3-10 Identification of the two witnesses has engendered a host of interpretations. Those who follow a spiritual or allegorical approach have identified them as the O.T. and N.T., others as Elijah and Moses because of the similarities in activity, and still others as Elijah and Enoch since these never experienced death. A better interpretation would seem to be that the two witnesses represent two last-day prophets who perform their ministries in the spirit and power of Elijah and Moses. These names are not provided, and they should not be identified with any previous biblical character. The place of the execution of these witnesses is Jerusalem. The remarkable effectiveness of their ministry may be observed in the universal rejoicing which follows their deaths (v. 10)." (Believer's Study Bible) "Two Deu 17:6 Witnesses Scripture does not clearly identify these two witnesses. Their power is like that of Moses and Elijah (v. 6). Cp. Isa 43:10, 12" (New Scofield Bible) "..The two witnesses will prophesy for 1260 days with astounding power (vv. 5, 6). Therefore, it seems that the beast’s period of domination (v. 7; 13:5) follows the ministry of the witnesses, each occupying roughly half the tribulation period. The two unnamed witnesses are striking similar to Elijah (see vv. 5, 6; 1 Kin. 17; Mal. 4:5) and Moses (see v. 6; Ex. 7–11), who appeared together with Christ on the Mount of Transfiguration (see Luke 9:29–32). It is also possible that these two witnesses symbolize all faithful believers testifying during the tribulation. Clothed in sackcloth means the witnesses are mourning for the unrepentant world to which they prophesy (see Matt. 11:21)." (Nelson NKJV Study Bible) "11:5-6 The miraculous powers of the two unnamed witnesses are reminiscent of those of Elijah and Moses (cf. Ex. 7:20; 8:1-12:29; 1 Kings 17:1; 18:41-45; 2 Kings 1:10-12)." Dear Steve, my Brother in Christ, I really appreciate the thanks and acknowledgement of the way that you have received my posts and answers. Thank you for your appreciation! But Steve, would you mind sending me a note at my e-mail instead of making a post such as this one, "Nolan, Thank you. Steve" ? I really appreciate it, Steve, I really do. But we have begun to e-mail each other and I think that it would be best to handle these 'congratulations' off the Forum my friend. I am not stating that a certain degree of acknowledgment is important in posts (especially with newcomers), but every post should be created with the thought of 'adding something new' to the conversation or topic at hand. I sincerely appreciate your applause! I would rather if you told me through e-mail. Thank you Steve, my brother in Christ. Nolan |
