1 | Is God capable of sarcasm, are people 1? | Gen 3:22 | lionheart | 223955 | ||
sonofmom, There are those who might view this as sarcastic. And in the case of the scriptures you gave this was God's responce to sin. Nothing sarcastic here. I will say this though, there are numerous symbols and figures of speech employed in God's Word and also when God is quite pointed and direct. Go through all of Gen 3 and you'll see what I'm saying. Look at 2 Tim 2:15 this is a must in any study of God's Word. In Him, lionheart |

Thank you lionheart. You say there is nothing sarcastic here, in Gen 11:6, that is, OK I can see the LORD saying, Behold, the people are one, well, maybe superficially. and they have all one language, which was true, for a time. The Lord continues, "and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do." Maybe sarcasm was a bad choice of words, Ridicule seems to be more fitting. This is the part that I am trying to understand, without going down too many rabbit trails in other Books, do you think that these words can be applied to the church today, as God's people being one? And do you think that God was serious about calling these people as being one in that cultural-historical context? Thank you, son |
