WHEN GOD SAID ADAM WAS CURSED, WHAT WAS HE TALKING ABOUT.GEN 3 VERSE 17 18 19 THEN GOD SAYS THE MAN HAS BECOME ONE OF US. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? DOESN'T VERSE 22-24 FREE ADAM OR EVERYONE FROM THIS CURSE? IS THIS ACTUALLY A PARABLE AND NOT TO BE TAKEN LITERALLY? WHAT DOES THE TREE OF LIFE SYMBOLIZE. WHAT DOES THE TREE OF KNOWLEDGE OF GOOD AND EVIL SYMBOLIZE? |

2 | ADAM AND EVE EATING THE FORBIDDEN FRUIT | Gen 3:17 | Makarios | 107132
Greetings Cubby, In Genesis 3:22, Scripture says, "Then the LORD God said, "Behold, the man has become like one of Us, knowing good and evil; and now, he might stretch out his hand, and take also from the tree of life, and eat, and live forever"-".. What God is saying in verse 22 is explained in verse 5 by Satan, who said, "you will be like God, knowing good and evil." Only in this sense are we 'like God': that we know good from evil. But what a great price to pay for our pride, by disobeying God, when man could have instead eaten from the tree of life, living forever, in complete selflessness and dependence on God. Verses 22-24 do not "free" man from anything at all. Rather, they speak of man's punishment in disobeying God - that man was driven from the Garden of Eden and the tree of life forever, except for those who are redeemed in Christ (Rev. 2:7; 22:2,14,19). Yes, Genesis 3 is to be taken literally, and not as a parable. The tree of life symbolizes life (Rev. 2:7; 22:2,14,19). The tree of the knowledge of good and evil symbolizes selfish ambition, since it, being the only forbidden fruit to eat from, symbolized power, knowledge and the attainment of 'being like God,' or pride, which was the same sin that caused Satan himself to fall; he himself wanting to be "like the Most High" (Isaiah 14:14). Blessings to you, Makarios |

HELLO. I WAS WRONG ABOUT VERSE 22-24. ACTUALLY IT'S 1RST TIMOTHY 2: 14. 15. THIS SOUNDS LIKE IT EXCLUDES THEM BOTH. HOW COULD EVE HAVE KNOWN WHAT GOD COMMANDED ADAM TO DO WHEN SHE WASN'T CREATED YET? WHERE WAS ADAM ALL THE TIME EVE WAS BEING DECEIVED? AND WHAT WOULD OF HAPPEN IF NEITHER OF THEM HAD SINNED?

Greetings Cubby, Genesis 3:2-3 clearly reveals that the woman, Eve, knew about God's command to them both to avoid the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. She told the serpent what God had commanded to them both, and the serpent deceived them (Gen. 3:13). According to 1 Tim. 2:14-15, Eve was deceived first, and then Adam was deceived through Eve. 1 Tim. 2:14-15 is accurate in that the woman was deceived first, and then Adam was deceived through his wife, since he ate the fruit from the tree in which God had commanded them to avoid. Genesis 3:6 states that "and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate." This verse does not clearly state that Adam was standing there right next to her, and it could simply mean that 'she gave some to her husband who was there with her in the Garden of Eden.' But we do know that Eve gave to Adam some of the forbidden fruit (3:6), and he ate of it. By eating of the forbidden fruit (either knowing it or not), Adam sinned against God, who explicitly told them not to eat from that specific tree. In conclusion, both had sinned against God. 1 Tim. 2:14-15 simply means that Adam himself was not first deceived by the serpent, even though he did eat of the fruit that his wife gave him. Blessings to you, Makarios |
