1 | "...sin against God?" | Gen 39:9 | Pastor Glenn | 102103 | ||
Notice Joseph's response to Potiphar's wife: Genesis 39:9 "There is no one greater in this house than I, and he has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How then could I do this great evil and sin against God?" My question is on the last phrase "...sin against God?" By what reasoning or knowledge did Joseph consider adultery with Potiphar's wife to be sin against God? Notice that this was before the law of Moses was given. Pastor Glenn |

Hello Glenn, Joseph was from a house of nobility. Father - Jacob. Grandfather - Isaac Great Grandfather - Abraham He was raised knowing the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Honoring family and friends. And no doubt the tale of the sinful promiscuous activity that was performed in Sodom and Gomorra, were passed down as fact from generation to generation, so was the act of God's wrath against such activity was passed on. And the fact that Sodom and Gomorra were destroyed by God would be proof in the pudding that that type of activity was sin unto God. Joseph's Great Grandfather, Abraham, witnessed this. As to Joseph's character: (Gen 39:2) And the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. "And Joseph was a goodly person.." (Gen 39:6) And he left all that he had in Joseph's hand; and he knew not ought he had, save the bread which he did eat. And Joseph was a goodly person, and well favoured. My grade?: A B C D F Peace! |
