1 | Why sold? Why not kidnapped? | Gen 37:28 | restate | 191226
Why did the Lord plan that Joseph be sold by his own brothers (Genesis 37:28)? He could have been found and kidnapped by the Midianites as he searched the countryside for them (verses 14-17). Restate

Hello Restate, Scripture does not say. Deut. 29:29 (ESV) The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law. Steve |

3 | Why sold? Why not kidnapped? | Gen 37:28 | Hank | 191231
Steve, when it comes to answering all those questions about why did God do thus and so, you don't seem to be any better than I am at it. Both of us evidently suffer from an inability to read into Scripture what simply isn't there, and neither of us shows any talent at all in manufacturing theological fairy tales. So I guess we may as well reisign ourselves to sticking with the biblical text, even though one can imagine how much fun it would be to be God's press secretary and given the leeway of filling in the gaps now and then. ....... I like your quote of Deut. 29:29. Very appropriate to the question. --Hank
4 | Why sold? Why not kidnapped? | Gen 37:28 | srbaegon | 191242
Hi Hamk, I think it comes with age. 25 to 30 years ago I could know God's mind and read between the lines of His word with the best of them. Now I have to settle for His wisdom and sure promises. Steve |
