1 | Is Ishmael the father is Islam? | Gen 21:21 | MWLaine | 229219
In this a prophetic verse talking about Hagar's child Ishmael, I wonder if the angel talking to Hagar is prophesying the Muslim nation. The bloody borders of Islam are well known today and it is very well known that Ishmael figures in very prominently into the Hajj. Gen 16:12 "He will be a wild donkey of a man, His hand will be against everyone, And everyone's hand will be against him; And he will live to the east of all his brothers." Even though Arabs and Jews spring from the origin of Abraham they are brothers fighting and killing each other daily over Canaan. Such a sin as not waiting on God for a child has resulted in the catalyst for contention between brothers that has been easy picking from Satan himself who is the head of Islam. Ahmadinejad who is professing to destroy Israel when he has sufficient strength of nuclear power appears to be that "Wild Donkey". Any thoughts? |

2 | Is Ishmael the father is Islam? | Gen 21:21 | biblicalman | 229222
Hi, If you want to know the source of the Arab nations read Genesis 10.6-7. They were nations long before the time of Ishmael. Sheba and Dedan (prominent 'Arab' nations) existed long before Ishmael. Genesis 16.12 says nothing about nations. The impression given is that Ishmael would be a loner and a desert wanderer. But eventually he married an Egyptian wife and had 12 sons, thus establishing his own family tribe. In Geneis 17.20 it was promised that he would be the father of 12 princes (that is, sons who would be 'princes' like he was), and would be made a great nation (that is a tribal group of villages and encampments - Gen 25.16). But as we have seen above there were already many 'Arab' nations before him. Ishmael married an Egyptian (his mother was Egyptian) and he lived in the wilderness of Paran. Thus it is doubtful if he had contact with Arabia. Indeed between him and Arabia were those who had gathered to Esau. It is possible that homeless men and outcasts gathered to Ishmael and his sons when they fled from slavery and injustice which would explain how he became 'a great nation' (i.e. a tribe parallel to those of the sons of Jacob. See Genesis 25.12-16). While two of his sons are named Kedar and Duma, they would be named after those tribes rather than the other way round. Later we do know that Ishmaelites were connected with Midianites and Medanites in trading ventures (Genesis 37.28). Thus they are NOT connected with the major Arab nations The truth is that Muhammad, who was strongly influenced by Jews and heretical Christians, and their presentation of Scripture, 'adopted' Ishmael so as to claim the promises given to Abraham for his people. |

3 | Is Ishmael the father of Islam? | Gen 21:21 | MWLaine | 229286
Gen 16:12 "He will be a wild donkey of a man, His hand will be against everyone, And everyone's hand will be against him; And he will live to the east of all his brothers." Examination of this prohecy concerning Ishmael would be coherent to what we are seeing concerning the Muslim/Islamic world which will not live peacefully with its internal or external neighbors. Infidels, Christians and Jews...Buddhists and Hindu, have the hand of Jihad against them. And it appears that the Qu'ran trumps up the relationship between Ishmael and Abraham, to be something greater than what I can find it to be other than animous, in order to lend credibility to Islam to be anything more than that of a plaintiff "Me Too" inclusionary cry from the elder son of Abraham. Therefore I take this to be a prophecy of Islam as we see it today with the head being in Mecca to the east. The Muslim Faithful all bow to the east in prayer towards Mecca to further solidify my thoughts on this verse. I can only conclude that Ishmael is the legitimate father of Islam because of the root sin in which Abraham did not wait on God to fulfill His promise. Can I be dissuaded? |

4 | Is Ishmael the father of Islam? | Gen 21:21 | EdB | 229290
First Islam didn't exist until about 610-620 AD which is approx 2600 years after Ishmael. While Islam claims it's heritage is in Ishmael little can be proved that Mohammed was a descendant. Remember there were many tribes in the region before Ishmael and a lot of interbreeding between them. Mohammed lineage is Bedouin and does not seem to be from Ishmael as such but since many of these tribes didn't keep any accounting of ancestry so it can't be fully determined. It is totally possible the many of Ishmael’s offspring are Islamic, but there are many other tribes and people groups that also make up Islam. In any case Islam claims they are the son of promise and that Jews have corrupted the scriptures in a way that it makes it look like God called Isaac the son of promise. Total nonsense. |
