1 | How do I reconcil Ch 1 and Ch 2 of Gen? | Gen 1:27 | Waterman | 240158
This verse says that God created them male and female. Later in the chapter it let's us know that this took place on the 6th day of creation. I have been taught that the days were 24 hour days in the creation. However, in the second chapter it sounds like there was some time between the making of Adam and the making of Eve. For example Adam named all the animals. This seems like it would take longer than a day. Can you help me with this?
2 | How do I reconcil Ch 1 and Ch 2 of Gen? | Gen 1:27 | EdB | 240177
I think people are getting your question confused with something completely different, mistaking your question as asking about verse 1 and 2 in Genesis chapter 1. However your question is dealing with the narrative found in Genesis 1:24-31 where scripture says God created man and woman on the 6th day. Which gives the impression God created man and woman at nearly the same time. And the narrative in Genesis 2:1-25 Which supplies a much more detailed account of the creation of man and woman. The narrative found here also seems to suggest the process took longer than a day. I think we need to read Genesis 1 account as a summary of what God did on each day of creation where Chapter 2 is a more a detailed explanation and gives us some insight to why God did what He he did. God didn't give us these two accounts to question their truthfulness but rather to understand God's concern for the welfare of His creation and especially man. In chapter 1 of Genesis we are told of what God accomplished and in chapter 2 we are told of God's desire for both man and creation to thrive and the compassion God had for Adam. Neither chapter offers any hard evidence that they contradict each other. So it comes down to our failure to appreciate what God was able to accomplish in one day. |
