Bible Note: Dear Luthren, In Gen 1:27, notice God named the species, "man" male and female. That is like God naming a lion, and that species named lion, is both male and female. This man (the species, both male and female) is blessed of God Gen 1:28, is told they have a purpose, be fruitful, multiply, replenish the earth, subdue it; have dominion over fish, fowl, every living that that moves on the earth...(note: he didn't say mankind was to rule over mankind, that's God's job, but he didn't say we were not suppose to dominate satan, in fact satan was a serpert that "moved on the earth" and God intended for man to cast him out of the Garden. Mark 16:15-20). Sometimes we can learn more about what God does NOT say as by what he does say... God created two trees in the middle of the Garden of Eden...Gen 2:9..The Tree of Life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. God gave the man (Adam and Eve) permission to eat of every tree of the garden...if he had stopped there, Adam and Eve would not have had a problem. However God did not stop there, he gave another command. Gen 2:16 God commanded the man (adam and Eve, the species: man), saying, Of every tree of the the garden you may freely eat; (17) but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, you shall not eat: for in the day you eat of it, you shall surely die (the margin says: in dying you shall die). Here mankind had the permission to eat of the tree of Life freely. However God, in his mercy, warned them that if they ate of the tree of both good and evil, the process of death would begin in their bodies and they would die,(in dying you will die) over time. This is like a natural parent telling their children, "don't go play in the traffic, if you do a big Mack truck will come along and run over you, and you will die." That would be a good parent that warned their children of danger, wouldn't it. God is the best parent in the universe. He knew the devil was going to show up in the garden and tempt them to play in the traffic of disobedience to God, so they would be his servants and he could legally kill them for this disobedience. Ro 6:16, 23. After all, disobedience is what got satan kicked out of heaven, he rebelled against God and wanted to exercise his own self-will and take God's place. Isa 14:1-32 Disobedience to God, his stated word, is called sin, (of which, sin, satan was the encourager to disobey God's spoken word). Gen 3:1-7 Sin, then, is doing opposite of what God says to do in his written or (in Adam and Eves Case, since the word of God had not been written down yet, the) spoken word. For this action, God cursed satan Gen 3:14. Because of the action of satan, and the action of mankind (at that point, it was only Adam and Eve, plus all the children that WOULD BE born of them in the future which were still seed in the loins of Adam)then God was the first shedder of blood for the covering over of sin. Gen 3:21 "coats of skins" means the animal had to be slain so the coat for them could be made. Why is that important? It is written, "without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sin." Heb 9:22, Matt 26:28 Jesus said, "This is my blood of the New Testament, which is shed for many for the remmission of sins." We understand this plan of God from the fact that God never changes. Malachi 3:6 "For I am the Lord, I CHANGE NOT;". What does that tell us about God? He was the same before he created the earth and mankind, he is the same now, and he will be the same when we see him face to face in eternity, he doesn't change! Therefore, because he doesn't change it is my personal belief that the animal slain in the Garden of Eden by God the Father, was a spotless lamb that was used in example form. Why do I believe this? Because Jesus is called the "Lamb of God" in the New Testament John 1:36. So before God sent Jesus to the earth to die for our sins AFTER he taught mankind through life experiences to obey him, and God walked with the people, all through the Old Testament, he gave the Garden of Eden example of the shedding of blood to cover (at that time) but to remit (in this time) sin in the New Testament. God's plan for mankind? Hear God's word, Obey God's word, Cast the devil out of your thoughts, words and deeds (by obedience to God's written and living word, Jesus), experience the blessings of God in a devil infested world, recognize good and evil, but don't participate in evil.
