This verse says that God created them male and female. Later in the chapter it let's us know that this took place on the 6th day of creation. I have been taught that the days were 24 hour days in the creation. However, in the second chapter it sounds like there was some time between the making of Adam and the making of Eve. For example Adam named all the animals. This seems like it would take longer than a day. Can you help me with this? | ||||||

Hi, Waterman... Welcome to the forum! What you are talking about is generally referred to as the "gap theory." It is expressed in a variety of ways, but it generally arises from the idea that there appears to be a gap between the first and second chapters of Genesis. I think it is a hermeneutic, though that is weak at best. We have no problem with an author writing a summary and then returning to fill out the details. It seems quite reasonable that we grant that same literary license to Moses. In Him, Doc |
