Can anyone show me a clear verse of Scripture anywhere in Genesis that gives us the reason WHY God created the world. I don't think you'll find one. In the frequent attempts to anwer this question, I see a lot of speculation, but little, if any, Scripture references to support the views given.

No, that is NOT why He created it. That's why He gave His only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Don't read something into the verse that isn't there.

Hello to everyone responding to this posting. I have gotten a lot of answers, most of them dealing with how or why there is suffering. That is not my question. I pretty much understand why there is suffering in the world and how to deal with it. My question is why did God create the world in the first place. If the standard answer (the one I get from books and those that I have asked) is right, because God wanted a people to worship Him from a willing heart, would that mean God had needs, and therefore not perfect? I mean the angels worship Him willing, some choose not to and followed Lucifer in the fall. If He created the world to show His mercy and grace, wouldn't that show a need in Him again, making Him less than perfect? These are just examples, and there may not be an answer to my question this side of heaven. It is something I thought about for a while and thought maybe someone else had to and could help me. Whatever the answer, it does not change the fact that God loves us and gave His Son so we can live in Him. And it does not change the fact that in Him, we can overcome the works of Satan in our lives. Thank you all for you answers and thoughts. later...wdc |

Hi wdc...are you asking why God created the "world" as in the cosmos...or why did He create man? I don't have a clue as to why He created the world, but I believe that we were created for the purpose of "fellowshipping" with Him...plain and simple. At least that is how I see the relationship that God had with Adam and Eve before the fall. They "walked and talked" with Him in the garden...it was a "relationship" thing because He wanted it that way. My opinion. aWtNs4Hm

Hello WtNs, Mostly the cosmos, as in why start all this in the first place. I understand the benefit of suffering, how God uses it in our lives, for example pruning (Jn. 15:1-5). If God created the world to put man here because He wanted fellowship or someone to love Him willingly, doen't this show weakness on His part and not perfection. I've always been taught that God is self-sufficent. I am not doubting God, just curious. Thanks for your reply. later...wdc |

Hello again, wdc...after much pondering and prayer over your question about "why" did God create the "world", I have come to the conclusion that the reason He created the world was in order for Him to be able to "teach" us "spiritual truths". As of now I have to say that I can't at this time back this statement up with a chapter or verse...but I am not totally done yet...this is all I have for now, but He is faithful and He says that if we lack wisdom we should ask Him. This is what I have done and I will seek and wait for the total answer. aWtNs4Hm
