Amman, Jordan -- the capital city, whose name is taken from the same root as the name of the Ammonites. Don't know if you would call them Ammonites, but it seems that they may still be around. Concerning the Ammonites, the Lord instructed the Hebrews this way: Deuteronomy 2:19 'When you come opposite the sons of Ammon, do not harass them nor provoke them, for I will not give you any of the land of the sons of Ammon as a possession, because I have given it to the sons of Lot as a possession.' Today Jordan is one of the Arab nations which is moderate and desires peace in its relationship with Israel, having concluded some pacts of friendship already. |

2 | Sons of Lot blessed? | Gen 19:30 | Mommapbs | 38092
Gen 19:36- 38 reveals that the mothers of Lot's sons were his daughters! These girls got their father drunk and had sexual realtions with him. Was their conduct honorable? Was Lot's - or was he excused by reason of intoxication? How did the "sins of the father" visit the offspring here? Isn't it interesting to note that God gave this land (mentioned in Deut 2:19)to the sons of Lot? Would you call this a "blessing?" Do you think that Lot's sons were blessed because Lot was the nephew of Abraham? Thankfully,God's ways are not our ways. What do you think God wants us to learn from this? |

3 | Sons of Lot blessed? | Gen 19:30 | Makarios | 38095
Greetings Mommapbs! Here is an interesting quote concerning the righteousness of Lot from the MacArthur Study Bible, page 1955. "2:7,8 delivered righteous Lot. He was righteous, as all the saved are, by faith in the true God. Righteousness was imputed to him, by grace through faith, as it was to Abraham (Gen. 15:6; Rom. 4:3,11,22,23). There was spiritual weakness in Lot (Gen. 19:6), e.g., immorality (Gen. 19:8) and drunkenness (Gen. 19:33-35). His heart was in Sodom (Gen. 19:16), yet he did hate the sins of his culture and strongly sought ways to protect God's angels from harm. He obeyed the Lord in not looking back at Sodom (Gen. 19). In both of the illustrations where God rendered a wholesale judgment on all living people (once on the whole earth, and once in the whole region of the plain South of the Dead Sea), Peter pointed out that God's people were rescued (v.5; cf. v.9). The Greek word for "oppressed" implies that Lot was troubled deeply and tortured (the meaning of "tormented") with the immoral, outrageous behavior of the people living in and around Sodom and Gomorrah. Tragically, it is ordinary for believers today no longer to be shocked by the rampant sin in their society." (1) After reading 2 Peter 2:7, I come to the conclusion that we could take this application introspectively and see if there be any "weak" way in each one of us.. Grace to you, Makarios Source: (1) The MacArthur Study Bible, 1997, Word Publishing, John MacArthur, Author and General Editor (www.gty.org). |
