1 | Only son of Abraham - Issac. | Gen 17:19 | CVG | 100260 | ||
No, Issac was not the only son at that time. Ishmael was the oldest, but Ishmael was not conceived by the hand of God it was Sarah who grew impatient and figure she could help God out by allowing her husband to be with her handmaid Hagar. Read Genesis 16:1-2. God's covenant was with Abraham and Sarah to have a child. Issac was the first born to them as God had promised would happen. When God called Abraham to bring Issac whom he lovest, Abraham was being proven in his heart that he trusted God's word that he would be the father of many nations. Abraham kept his eyes on the covenant promise. He did not know how God was going to make it happen, but he knew he had to be obedient. Genesis 22:5 lets us see Abraham's faith. Before he started up he told the men that "I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you." (KJV) Gensis 22:12 lets us see that God saw his heart because Abraham was willing to trust Him. Just think, God promised him a son, then to prove his love he ask for his son back by asking Abraham to sacrifice what he loved so dearly. Abraham trusted the covenant that God made between them. As we grow in Christ by faith and trusting the word, there comes some times when our heart will be proven. We go through some trails longer than others, but only to see if we will continue to believe the word or will we quit and start operating by the world system. We are suppose to be stewarts over God's stuff. The different situations and circumstance we experience, the money we earn and the material possession we receive are all for God's use. When he calls for us to help our brethern in Christ out by sharing an experience similar to their or giving our money or most prize material possession away, we should be at a level where it is done with no questions ask. Our eyes should be on the promises of God, just like Abraham kept his eyes on the covenant. Trust God with all thine heart. I hope I came close to the answer you are looking for.
