3 | Only son of Abraham - Issac. | Gen 17:19 | Morant61 | 100252 | ||
Greetings 4 Square! The word used in Genesis 22:2 has several possible meanings. 'yahid' can mean the only child actuall born, but it can also mean 'unique' or 'beloved' as well. The usuage here is similiar to the usuage of 'monogenes' in the New Testament, where Christ is not described as a literal child born, but as unique and beloved. Thus, Issac was 'yahid' in the sense of the love that his parents had for him and in the sense that he was the unique fulfillment of God's promised to Abraham, but not in the sense that Abraham had no other children. I hope this helps! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
