Hi Steve, These are excellent Scripture references and I found them helpful in knowing God as our help and our deliverer. He is our refuge and strength in the time of trouble. As far as in deciding whether God is our Helper [sic] and whether that is one of the names that the Lord would use; these Scriptures do not help. I do see them as matching verses that have the same messages. Ex 18:4: The (God) of my father was my help, and delivered me... Ex 3:15: The (God) of your fathers...This is My name forever, and this is My memorial-name to all generations. Ex 4:5: that they may believe that the Lord, the (God) of their fathers...has appeared to you. 2 Sam 8:6-14: and the (Lord) helped David where he went. 1 Chron 18:13-19:13: The participants helped each other in their own individual cause and may the (Lord) do what is good in His sight, is what I see in the passage. Ps22:19: O Thou/ my help, hasten to my assistance. Verse 24 But when he cried to Him for help, (He) heard. Ps 37:40: And the Lord/ helps them, and delivers them; He delivers them from the wicked, and saves them, Because they take refuge in Him. Ps 38:15: For I hope in (Thee), O Lord; Thou wilt answer me, O Lord my God. Psalm 40:17: Since I am afflicted and needy, Let the Lord be mindful of me; Thou art my help and my deliverer; Do not delay, O my (God). Ps 46:5: God is in the midst of her, she will not be moved. God/ will help her when morning dawns...The (Lord) of hosts is with us;..." Ps 54:4-6: I will give thanks to (Thy) name, O Lord, for it is good. Psalm 63:6,7: When I remember Thee on my bed, I meditate on Thee/ in the night watches, For Thou has been my help, And in the shadows of Thy wings I sing for joy. My soul clings to (Thee); Thy right hand upholds me. Ps 70:5: O God, hasten to deliver me; O Lord/ hasten to my help! The slashes and parentheses are mine for comparison. As I said, they are excellent verses to prove that He is a constant help in the time of need, but they do not speak to Him as being our Helper. From the heart, Ray |

4 | God is our Rock; is He our (s)Stone? | Ps 54:7 | Ray | 137888
I am considering whether I should capitalize God as my Helper. However, I was offered another verse to consider and am wondering what the feeling is about the Shepherd, the Stone of Genesis 49:24. Genesis 49:24, KJ, "But his bow abode in strength, and the arms of his hands were made strong by the hands of the might God of Jacob; (from thence is the shepherd, the stone of Israel;)" Genesis 49:24, NKJ, "But his bow remained in strength, And the arms of his hands were made strong By the hands of the Mighty God of Jacob (From there is the Shepherd, the Stone of Israel), 25 By the God of your father who will help you, And by the Almighty who will bless you..." Is God the Shepherd and the Stone? From the heart, Ray |

I would say yes, since I think it is a proper name.

Hi Steve, Thanks for your answer but which "it" are you speaking of; Helper, Shepherd, or Stone? From the heart, Ray |

Hi Steve, Do you want to look at some Scriptures with me? There are fifteen verses that have the word "(h)Helper" translated in the NASB. Eight are in the Old Testament. Personally, I only have Psalm 54:4 with a capitalized "Helper". I have Helper penciled in for that verse because I see it as an excellent match with John 14:16. Psalm 54:4, NKJ, "Behold, God is my **Helper; the Lord is with those who uphold my life." John 14:16, "And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another **Helper, that He may be with you forever." The Holy Spirit is recognized in the New Testament as the Helper. He is One called alongside to help. Jesus our Helper leaves and He sends the Holy Spirit to us. John 16:7, "But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper shall not come to you; but if **I go, I will send Him to you." I compare/contrast Psalm 54:4, "Behold, God is my **Helper" and Hebrews 13:6, "The Lord is my **Helper". The Scripture reference for Hebrews 13:6 is Psalm 118:6. Psalm 118:5, "From my distress I called upon the **Lord; The Lord answered me and set me in a large place. 6 The Lord is for me; I will not fear; What can man do to me?" Hebrews 13:6, "so that we confidently say, "The Lord is my **Helper, I will not be afraid. What shall man do to me?" The **stars are for the comparisons that I see. From the heart, Ray |
