Praise the Lord everyone! I have been reading a book by Joyce Meyer "How to hear from God" and it's a good book and what I got out of it was this verse, learning how to be still, be quiet and listening for his voice. I know that all things take time and practice. I have sat quiet before the Lord, not very long, I would say around 5-10 minutes and my mind will not be quiet. I try to sit there and think about the Lord and clear my mind but I'm thinking about what I did earlier, what I'm going to cook or everything else. What can I try to do to clear my thoughts and focus on God, I'm not used to doing that at all. I'm one of the ones who's always talking (praying) and never listening and God is taking me to another level in him and I just want to do all that he wants me to do. Thanks you and God bless. |

2 | Psalm 46:10 | Ps 46:10 | prayon | 128012
Greetings 8788, You are not alone in your problem, I do the same thing. I am still looking for a way to win this battle. Unfortunetly there is no cut and dry solution. Some of the things that help me are to have some praise music praying. I have found that when I listen and concentrate on the words that praise him I can keep the praise going when the song is off and praising is a part of prayer. Another thing that I do is I will pray one thought through and then call out the name of Jesus over and over until my mind is solely on Him again. You can also make yourself a "prayer area or room" where there are no distractions. Surround yourself with Him or His creation. Make sure that you are away from distractionary noises. Some people write the prayer they are praying to keep them focused. I tend to walk and pray. I also do a lot of praying in my car while I am driving. I also pray a lot in tongues (I don't know if your denomination believes in tongues). When I pray in tongues the Holy Ghost inside me continues to pray even if my mind wanders and it will "snap me out" or my mind wanderings. If need be then keep a sheet of paper close so that when a problem comes to mind or something that you need to do write it down so you don't forget and then forget about it. You can also use this paper to write down what God gives you while in prayer. May God bless you in your struggle to overcome! prayon |

3 | Psalm 46:10 | Ps 46:10 | 8788 | 128019
thanks so much prayon, I thought I was the only one like that and yes I do pray in tongues and I like to walk and pray as well, I pray more in tongues, I pray in the natural when there is someone heavenly on my heart and then I'll turn to tongues. I also have sheets I pray off of daily for family, church, etc. I found out that sitting while you pray makes your mind wonder the more, I said I was going to start praise and worship to help me to enter in and just not start off with nothing. I really thank you for you suggestions and input. Be blessed! |
