1 | Interpretation of DESIRE? | Ps 37:4 | NoEyeHasSeen | 23662
I have struggled with this verse; perhaps in my immaturity... Does this mean, "Delight yourself in the Lord and He will GRANT your request? Or, Does it mean that "He will PLACE THose DESIRES in your heart?" Meaning He is the owner of any desire you may have??
2 | Interpretation of DESIRE? | Ps 37:4 | Morant61 | 23672
Greetings NoEyeHasSeen! I checked a couple of sources concerning your question. The evidence seems to be very clear that God will GRANT our requests. The reasons are: 1) The word 'give' is the Qal Imperfect form of the Hebrew word 'nathan.' It usually means "to give or to grant." The choice will depend upon the context. 2) The context says that God will give "the desires." This word is the Hebrew 'mish-aw-law'. It refers to a request or petition. This word is also used in Ps. 20:5 (the only other occurance in the Bible). 3) In Psalm 20:5, the phrase is used, "...may the Lord fulfill all your petitions." Looking at the two occurances together, I would say that the evidence indicates that God will grant our petitions, not place desires within our heart. I hope this helps!
