1 | By What Right Does God Rule Man? | Ps 2:11 | panjam | 188088
I will try to answer this question as best as possible. The first reason I would give is that as creator God has the right to expect His creatures to respond to Him in obeyance. No one makes something intentionally that he or she cannot control or serves the purpose for which they have made it. "Shall what is formed say to him who formed it, 'Why did you make me like this?' "[Romans 9:20b] The second reason is that because of His redemptive work through Jesus Christ He has redeemed us or bought us back from the power of Satan and from death itself. The imagery here is like slavery. One is under the leadership or servitude of a hard task master, who illtreat you daily and care not for your wellbeing. Then comes a benevolent and wealthy person who purchases you from slavery and puts you in His own house to eat at His own table and treats you not as a slave but as a son or daughter of His. Such benevolent redeemer deserves the reverence and obedience of the one whom He has redeemed "For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's." [1 Corinthians 6:20] The third and final reason I would like to bring forward is that of the love of God. "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." [Romans 5:8] Although He made us we rebelled against Him. Yet He did not just leave us, He sent His Son to die for us to redeem us from the punishment we deserve. Sin destroys us, but Christ's blood redeems us. How does a man win the heart of a woman? Usually by demonstrating his love for her through some sacrifice. The greater the sacrifice he makes the greater the love she will have for him. "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." [John 15:13] He also said "If ye love me, keep my commandments." [John 14:15]. In summary, there are three reasons why we should obey God and why he has the right to rule or judge us. As our creator He has the right to direct us and judge us. As redeemer, he bought us and we are His so he has the right to expect our obedience and as Saviour and the One who loved us enough to die for us He has the right and deserves our adoration and worship. There is another reason, and that is His nature. God is pure, holy, sinless, and righteous. He only is Holy. By that fact, He only has the right to both rule and judge us. Everyone else is flawed and not worthy of such exhalted position. |

PanJam, You said, "There is another reason, and that is His nature. God is pure, holy, sinless, and righteous. He only is Holy. By that fact, He only has the right to both rule and judge us." I agree. That God is good seems to me to be the overarching (over His being the Creator) and fundamental basis for God's divine right to rule. It does not seem to me that being Creator, in and of itself, does not give God a legitimate right to rule man. A father may beget children but if he is abusive, his children should be taken away from him and his right to parenting them be denied. What do you think? |

Lookn4ward2Heavn - The idea of this Forum is and has always been to ask Bible questions which elicit Bible answers. You end your question directed to PanJam with "What do you think?" ...... It is not what PanJam thinks, or what Hank thinks, or what anyone else thinks that we're after on the Forum. We seek to know what the word of God teaches on a given topic. All you're doing is asking for an opinion. I believe you have been admonished before about keeping within the bounds of Forum guidelines. Please see to it that you do. ...... You stirred up so much dust and got such negative feedback from your peers on the Forum with your original question about what right God has to rule man, that it's surprising that you continue to push it. I'm hard pressed to understand what point and what value, if indeed any, the question has anyway. --Hank

Hank, My question assumes a Biblical answer will be given. I just asked the question and answered others giving my thoughts on it. See note, #188302. |

Hello Lookn... The answer has already been given. God has the right of rule because he is God (Dan 2:20-23; 4:34-35) and because he created us (Jer 18:1-11; Acts 17:24-28). How many more answers are required? Steve |
