1 | By What Right Does God Rule Man? | Ps 2:11 | panjam | 188088 | ||
I will try to answer this question as best as possible. The first reason I would give is that as creator God has the right to expect His creatures to respond to Him in obeyance. No one makes something intentionally that he or she cannot control or serves the purpose for which they have made it. "Shall what is formed say to him who formed it, 'Why did you make me like this?' "[Romans 9:20b] The second reason is that because of His redemptive work through Jesus Christ He has redeemed us or bought us back from the power of Satan and from death itself. The imagery here is like slavery. One is under the leadership or servitude of a hard task master, who illtreat you daily and care not for your wellbeing. Then comes a benevolent and wealthy person who purchases you from slavery and puts you in His own house to eat at His own table and treats you not as a slave but as a son or daughter of His. Such benevolent redeemer deserves the reverence and obedience of the one whom He has redeemed "For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's." [1 Corinthians 6:20] The third and final reason I would like to bring forward is that of the love of God. "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." [Romans 5:8] Although He made us we rebelled against Him. Yet He did not just leave us, He sent His Son to die for us to redeem us from the punishment we deserve. Sin destroys us, but Christ's blood redeems us. How does a man win the heart of a woman? Usually by demonstrating his love for her through some sacrifice. The greater the sacrifice he makes the greater the love she will have for him. "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." [John 15:13] He also said "If ye love me, keep my commandments." [John 14:15]. In summary, there are three reasons why we should obey God and why he has the right to rule or judge us. As our creator He has the right to direct us and judge us. As redeemer, he bought us and we are His so he has the right to expect our obedience and as Saviour and the One who loved us enough to die for us He has the right and deserves our adoration and worship. There is another reason, and that is His nature. God is pure, holy, sinless, and righteous. He only is Holy. By that fact, He only has the right to both rule and judge us. Everyone else is flawed and not worthy of such exhalted position. |

Greetings panjam! Welcome to the Study Bible Forum! In light of all the controversy this post has caused, I think it should be said your post is worthy of notice! Regardless of the motivation (which has yet to be settled) of the original question , you have raised some very good points that are always worth sharing with the world! Thank you for the spirit in which you presented your post! As a side note to your post and for further consideration, one can look to the sovereignty of God found throughout scripture and it should be quite obvious mankind does not even have the grounds to question if God has a "right" or not. His so called "rights" are not granted to him by man nor does mankind's opinion have any weight or sway on His rule. Consider also this 1 Cor. 4:7, James 1:17, John 3:27 and 1 Chron. 29:14. Clearly all that we have including the so called "free will" and life itself has been given to us by our creator. How could it be then that we determine His "rights"? May God bless you panjam and thank you again for your post! Steve |
