1 | How are marriages created in the Bible | Ps 1:1 | Morant61 | 160083
Greetings Juanmas! It is true that Scripture never details exactly how marriage is to be performed. However, it is not true that marriage in the Jewish community was simply a matter of cohabitation and consummation. There was and is an elaborate marriage ritural and ceremony. Just because a narrative account does not give details concerning the ceremony does not necessarily mean that one did not take place. :-) Over the years, my undersanding of Scripture on this point has become quite simple. This is one of those areas where we should simply follow the civil law of our culture unless that law clearly violates God's law. For us, that means signing a piece of paper. ;-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

2 | How are marriages created in the Bible | Ps 1:1 | JuanMas | 160091
Tim, Thank you for your response. You are right about civil law traditions. But just speaking from a theoretical point of view, Jacob and Rachel [Genesis 29:20] probably did have a wedding celebration since she was his betrothed. However, the same could not have been true with Leah who became his wife first. The implication of this is that couples who consider themselves "just living together" may actually be creating a "marriage".:-) |

Greetings Juanmas! I had read earlier that you felt Jacob and Leah could not have had a wedding. Why not? Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
