1 | What happened to Elihu? | Job 42:7 | Mommapbs | 58361
Why is there no mention of Elihu, the "youngest counselor" of Job?

Greetings Mommapbs! Here is a bit of commentary on Elihu in regards to Job 42:7.. "42:7-8 Four times in these verses God refers to Job as My servant, a vindication of God's confidence in Job when originally challenged by Satan (1:8). 42:9 Elihu was not included probably because his speeches were nearer the truth." 3 | Is "nearer the truth" good enough? | Job 42:7 | Mommapbs | 58483
Thanks for the prompt reply Makarios! I've missed interacting on the Forum, but I'm home for a couple of days and this has been on my mind so I thought I'd put it out there for some discussion. Is "nearer the truth" good enough? This bothers me a bit; it kind of reminds me about the one who knows about God, but is 18 inches short of really knowing Him. (Head knowledge is NOT good enough!) What are your thoughts? Blessings to you and yours! Mommapbs |

4 | Is "nearer the truth" good enough? | Job 42:7 | Makarios | 58510
Greetings Mommapbs, What Ryrie is saying is that Elihu was most likely "nearer to the truth" than the others. He is/was not saying that being "nearer to the truth" is good enough. No, being "nearer to the truth" is not good enough. We must HAVE the Truth ourselves in order to be saved (John 14:6). But in Elihu's case, it is quite possible that Elihu hinted at the fact that Job needed to repent (more so than the others), regardless if he had sinned in thought or deed, and he finally did repent. Therefore, you see a bit of justification in the fact that the Lord spoke to the others and not to Elihu, even though Elihu also reproved Job. Blessings to you, Makarios |
