1 | Looking for the Saviour from Heaven! | Job 19:25 | Ray | 65004
Hi Robert, I praise God with you and appreciate your thoughts here. May I talk with you as one who is interested in capitalization?:) I would like to look at Job 19:25 with the idea of knowing a triune God. For me, that is looking at three pronouns. I believe that there are three pronouns of Deity in verse 25. I offer these looks at some translations with this in mind. NASB, "And as for me, I know that my Redeemer lives, And at the last He will take (His) stand on the earth." Here are three pronouns and may very well be the best translation I could offer. However, there is in verse 24 mention of the "rock"; and for that reason I would consider the use of a lower case "redeemer". For instance, I use "redeemer" for Psalm 19:14, "Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Thy sight, O (Lord), my rock and my redeemer." See an earlier NASB copyright for lower case redeemer. If I dropped "Redeemer" from the three pronouns, one could insert as replacement the pronoun offered in the Study Bible margin, "Or, as the Last". NASB, "And as for me, I know that my redeemer lives, And as the Last, He will take (His) stand on the earth." If we go with "the Last" and we remember that Jesus said that "I am the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last" then let's consider the Amplified. Amplified, For I know that my redeemer and vindicator lives, and at the last, He, the Last (One) will stand upon the earth." I could go with that change. With the introduction of "the Last" I could agree with the NKJ with that change but with the keeping of the Redeemer. "For I know that my Redeemer lives, And He shall stand as the (Last) on the earth." Are you following me so far? For I am as a man and from my flesh trying to see God. Job 19:27, "Whom I myself shall behold, And whom my eyes shall see and not another. My heart faints within me." These things can not be discerned without the Spirit of God. We combine spiritual thoughts with spiritual words and are taught by the Holy Spirit. 1 Corinthians 2:13. So I offer this comparison. The parentheses are mine of course for comparison. Job 19:25, "And as for me, I know that my redeemer lives, And as the Last He will take (His) stand on the earth. Even after my skin is destroyed, Yet from my flesh I shall see *God; Whom I myself shall behold, And whom my eyes shall see and not another. My heart faints with me." Compare/contrast Matthew 5:2ff, "And opening His mouth (He) began to teach them, saying,...Blessed...Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see *God. 1 Corinthians 2:9, "but just as it is written, "Things which eye has not seen and ear has not heard, And which have not entered the heart of man, all that God has prepared for those who love (Him)." Romans 8:32, "He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how will He not also with (Him) freely give us all things?" contrast John 4:25, "The woman said to Him, "I know that Messiah is coming (He who is called Christ); when that One comes, (He)[parenthesis mine] will declare all things to us." If we want to see *God we must realize that (God) is *Spirit. And that requires faith; even faith in the Man, Jesus Christ. I praise His precious name! From the heart, Ray |

2 | Looking for the Saviour from Heaven! | Job 19:25 | Robert Nicholson | 65015
Brother Ray: Thank you for your thoughtful and most excellent response. I believe the comparsion which you have given most certainly expands on the interpretation of the verse. It is amazing how that God has given us such truth through the words of ancient people who seemed to have far more insight than what we (I) sometimes give them credit for. Ray I do appreciate the importance of care taken in capitalization, even if at times I have difficulty trying to grasp the meaning. Thanks again In Christ Robert |
