1 | WHY DOSE IT HAVE TO BE MOSSES AND ELIJAH | Revelation | DAN HOLMES | 1123
WHY DO THE TWO WITNESSES HAVE TO BE SOMEONE WHO LIVED IN THE PAST? COULD IT NOT BE TWO WHO GOD HAS RAISED UP FOR THE END TIME?
2 | WHY DOSE IT HAVE TO BE MOSSES AND ELIJAH | Revelation | inHzsvc | 1774
It could be, perhaps. We aren't really told much about them. They're supernatural power seems to be something more than human. However, they meet death which seems to be very human. It is my conviction that they will be Elijah(which we are told in the book of Malachi would return before the Great Day of the Lord) and Enoch. Both of these were taken by God BEFORE death. Therefore, they could still meet death. However, Satan contended with Michael over the body of Moses, which is interesting within itself--too many commentators skip that passage. Anyway, there is no way we can be dogmatic about it. We DO know, there will be two witnesses during the Tribulation period whom God will empower to carry out His plans. Heb 9:27 (ASV) And inasmuch as it is appointed unto men once to die, and after this [cometh] judgment; . . . No disrespect to either you or your answer is intended. I fully agree that we ought not to be dogmatic about the answer to this question. Your answer has merit and should not be dismissed lightly. However, it would seem that the Scripture cited to predict Enoch as the second witness instead of Moses is far outweighed by the number of similarities between Moses and the two witnesses. What did Enoch ever do besides the fact that "God took him"? What did he ever do relevant to Christ's Second coming? I feel the fact that Enoch was taken by God before death is a weak argument indeed. . . . If one means to interpret Heb 9:27, as many honest and sincere folks do, to mean that every individual must die once and only once, this is easily refuted by our general knowledge of the Bible together with common sense. . . . In his Study Bible, John MacArthur comments on Heb 9:27: "to die once. This is a general rule for all mankind. There have been very rare EXCEPTIONS (emphasis mine) (e.g., Lazarus and the multitude who were resuscitated at Christ's resurrection died twice; compare John 11; Matt 27). ... Another exception will be those who don't die even once, but who will be 'caught up...to meet the Lord in the air' " (1 Thess 4:17) Thanks for your participation. I want to emphasize that I am NOT being dogmatic. I do not insist that the two witnesses will be Moses and Elijah. Any human who says he knows the answer with certainty is in error. |

4 | WHY DOSE IT HAVE TO BE MOSSES AND ELIJAH | Revelation | inHzsvc | 1801
You asked what Enoch ever did with respect to the Second Coming. Well, let's see.....Jude 14 begins "And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these things, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, (15) to execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him." Now, this sounds like something similar to what I think, at least, that the two witnesses will be preaching. Again, I am not dogmatic concerning Enoch or anybody else. However, I have many good commentators that feel Enoch is the second witness and they have reasonable ground to stand on. God can empower anybody He wants to with the powers the two witnesses will have. Moses and Elijah wouldn't have had them had the Lord not given them to them. God bless all and thanks for the good conversation.

I must admit that when I asked what Enoch ever did with respect to the Second Coming, I was in error. Thank you so much for pointing out what it says in Jude 14. Citing the reference in Jude tells me you are quick and sharp. My hat goes off to you. Again, thanks for your reply, without which I would still be in the dark about Enoch. God bless. --JVH0212

That passage has made me wonder how much Enoch was hated in the pre-flood era. God bless.
