Hebrews 6:1-2 lists things that are elementry or basic teachings and doctrine of Christ... repentance and abandonment of dead works faith baptism the laying on of hands the resurrection of the dead eternal judgment and punishment I personally understand this passage in context with Hebrews 5:11-14 In Hebrews5:11-6:3 the author of Hebrews is showing his frustration (Heb 5:11-14) and urging the audience not to live on milk but solid food by moving past these elementary teachings listed in Hebrews 6:1-2 (which the audience should have been completly aware of for a very long time) and God permitting/willing move on to advanced teaching (Hebrews 6:3) |

Dear jischock, I agrree with dbaggett49, there is a stage beyond 'the principles of Christ'. The Holy Spirit moves us to cry Abba Father, not Abba Christ.' (Rom 8:15) The writer of Hebrews contrasts the milk and the meat. The milk (and honey) passes through another physical organism before feeding us, and He wants to deal with you directly, one to one, 'the spirit of adoption'. (Heb 5:12-14) Paul echoes these words (Eph 4:11-13) when he describes how we were under the prophets, teachers etc. TILL we learn to educate our own bodies, and the body of of Christ. He wants to deal directly with us as a loving Father. The purpose of Christ is to bring us to the Father. (1 Cor 15:28) His minsitry ended the Levitical priesthood, and replaced it with a ministry which resembles John the baptist. He sent his disciples to Him to winess for themselves, 'I might decrease that He must increase.' (John 3:30) The true forerunner, and none born of man was greater. Paul's prayer for the early church was that they might receive revelation and knowledge of Him. (Eph 3:14-20, Phill 1:9, Col 1:9) It is the Holy Spirit who ultimately brings us into all truth and understanding. (John 16:13) The commentaries are good, they are helpful, but let us hear from Him. We study and search His voice, His word, illuminated by His Spirit, and your revelation is my blessing. A walk of faith where we believe that when we ask of Him, He will not give us stone for bread or a scorpion instead of fish. (Luk 11:11-13) The revelation of mystery is a gift of the Holy Spirit which seems to be ignored. The 'musterion' in Greek is mentioned many times, the sacred secrets understood by the early church. Shared sacred secrets we seem to have forgotten, they were not unknown problems. I seek that intimate knowledge of Him. Thank you for your question, yours and His, Paul |

I agree with you completly, Paul. Yes, there is a stage past 'the principles of Christ' I was giving detail to what principles the writers of Hebrews wanted his audience to go beyond. You gave a great answer to what is beyond those elementary principles. Joanna :) |

Dear Joanna, Does this understanding help us to imptove our ministry towards others? When we have the privilege of bringing someone to Christ it seems they go through a stage of totally relying on us. There comes a time, the Father's appointed time (Gal 4:1-4), when we must let go of the role of mediator. There is only one mediator. (1 Tim 2:5) They are to be married to Him and let no man come between. Is this the interpretation of the parable of the unjust steward? (Luk 16) If he hangs onto his mediatory role, he 'wastes the Lord's goods.' He must share his anointing oil equally with all the Lord's debtors, enthroning the Christ in them, 'Sit down and write your own bill.' (vs 6) The wheat is shared on a five to four, the fivefold ministry of man (Eph 4:11 Gen 1:26) has to lose some of its authority. Two feedings of Christ, first five then four, one in groups, the next after following Christ for three days? Through the five pillars where the priests serve, then the four into God's light and glory? If we, like the steward, give up our followers to Him, He will commend us. (vs.8) Then He can stay in fellowship and still enter their houses. How many of fellowships break up today because of undue authority and power struggles over those the Lord wants to progress? Perhaps we have much to learn by 'going beyond the principles of the doctrines of Christ? Yours and His Paul |
