The word rapture came down to us from a translation called the Vulgate. It is not a word that is in our English translations. The concept of the rapture is discussed in many different words; we just grouped all of them together and coined the word rapture, as a catchall word to cover them all. The closest that the word rapture comes to in the Greek language of the New Testament, is the word EPISUNAGOGE, it is a compound word EPI, meaning out and SUNAGOGE, a gathering, as an assemble. The word synagogue as used by the Jews is actually a derivative from the later, as a gathering of people. Paul expresses this in II Thessalonians 2:1 where he says: Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, |
