How much of a role should women play. I know they are told to remain quiet in the service and to be sumbissive, but what about women leading women? |

greatfullydead: I would ask you to consider the culture at the time Paul wrote his letters. At that time women were uneducated, and considered as belongings to the man. A womans life was very demeaming. Jewish men had a prayer that included " I am glad I was not born a women. Is culture of 200 years ago to be followed today? Or was Paul addressing those who lived in that culture at that time? As we see today in many third world, and even some more modern countries, women cover the face, can't drive, are beaten by others, raped as punishment, and treated like scum. I know Jesus elevated women and treated them very different form the culture of that day. For example, the woman caught in adultery, the woman at the well, Mary and Martha, and even his mother. Respect, love and uplifting women were the examples I see. Paul taught submission to both the man and woman. Men are to treat their wifes as Christ treats the Church! He gave all He dad to redeem (us) the church. I find the Book of Hosea a very clear picture of Christ and how he Bought us back with all he had, and took us as sinful as we are. I would say women know more about giving and loving and teaching then most men will ever have a clue. Why do you think most churches have more women than men? Who has the tenderness that us men strive so hard to achieve? Perhaps we (us men) know much more about asertiveness and demanding we be obeyed, than the genuineness of giving our selves as Christ did for the church (usmen included). I think we forget they, women, more specfically our wives, are our co laborers in Christ not a doormat to step upon or to be told to shutup and tend to the kids and teach other women. We men have a very distorted view of what Scripture says our lives in Christ are to be. (Now for any lady reading this take a bow while I applaud you!) I hope this is a note of enlightenment for us men. Blessings. justme |

Point taken, but there are no women evangelists in the bible. My question is concerning leadership. |

greatfullydead:I think if you remember the culture and then look at what the women did do you might see it in a better light. Look at who was supporting Paul, many are the names of women. Jesus was ministered to by women. In context of the culture the women were elevated far above what was the norm at that time/ I do not see how we can call culture of that time a Biblical example of how we are to treat women today. Here is a point. What is the most valued thing in a church? I beleive it is the babies and children. Rarely do men minister to those babies or toddlers. Why not? If anyone has a doubt that that is not evangelism may I suggest any man do it for a year or two. Look at the mission field, there are many single women on the field doing it all. Often with out being "ordained" by a denomination! I have been to Bolivia in the most desolate place I hope to ever be again. There was a couple of women Missionaries doing ministry that was beyond my expectations. God Called them. They obeyed and and at a cost above most of would be willing to pay. What is leadership? Leadership is nothing less than obediance to Christ call and doing it. Billy Ghrams daughter is a evangelist, and is very effective. The United States history of women in ministry is a subject that will really amaze you. There are women in every church position today. I am not a femminist at all, even though I have strong feelings of support of women in ministry, I do see the practical side of the odds against women being accepted by the conserative end of the church. I am not liberral at all, but I have reservations about women pastors. However I see some denominarions that allow men who have been unfaithfull in sexual purity, allowed to stay in ministry, or in some really messed up churches allowing homosexuals pastor. The perveted culture of our time has a pendalem sings in swings. The proof of Gods Call in ones life is the equiping of God in ones life and then the ministry that follows. "Who am I to judge some of these issues", is how I think sometimes. I hope this is'nt to confusing, I have tried to explain a very complicated issue. Peace. justme |
